Had my birthday and Xmas dinners for many years at this restaurant. For many years i would say it was almost unbeatable and the food was amazing. Sadly when i had my last birthday there all that changed as whoever makes the decisions in that place seems not to realize the famous saying about not fixing something that isn't broken. At first all seemed well when we ordered our drinks we had a helpful and polite waitress however from that point onwards it all went wrong. We were given the new menu which was an absolute contrast to that of what i had known to love for all the years i had been going there. When the waitress came back round i asked her it it was possible to have the mixed grill which is what i had always loved on the original menu and she said no to this. I then asked her whose decision it was to make such a drastic change to the menu and she said that it was the owner. I asked to see the owner but was instead sent the duty manager. I asked her why the menu had been changed and how it could possibly considered to be an improvement on the original menu and she would not give me an answer to my question. I then stated that the new menu and the service i was receiving that evening had ruined my birthday and the duty managers response to this was to simply just shrug and state that she cannot please everyone and gave me some half hearted apology. It did'nt get any better afterwards either as when i got home i wrote about my experience on their facebook page and the next day i got a response from another member of staff who did not give her position in the company who asked me to email the full details to her so she could look into this. I sent said email and 2 days later i got a reply saying that was just a load of lame excuses as to why they would not grant me my request and that they were not going to uphold my complaint. I then replied back by asking why the menu was changed and how it was an improvement on the original one. I received no reply to this. I then wrote to the owner detailing all of the above and received no reply. Since then i see that other people have also expressed their displeasure at all the changes that have been made to what was once a wonderful establishment in their reviews on trip adviser which once again poses the question: - If its not broke why try and fix it?
My dead cat has better acumen for running a business then the management and owner of this place and i recommend to anyone thinking of eating here to avoid it at all costs. I would starve before...
Read moreThe hotel itself is lovely, clean, warm & welcoming. Our room (executive suite) was very spacious, laid out lovely and the shower was amazing! I expect the balcony would have been nice for the summer, although there is a heater for the colder weather. Unfortunately the balcony is enclosed but the room made up for it. Fresh bottles of water every day, tea/coffee topped up, clean towels, fresh bedding, room cleaned.
The negatives - Most of the staff were very helpful but unfortunately we did come across a couple of members of staff who came across rude & like we had bothered them unnecessarily. We had a 'continental breakfast' in with our room price, although I would not call it that. As a coeliac, there were no options for me, all pastry or bread, diary yoghurt & only oak milk or cows milk available (on one morning, no oak milk on another morning). There was no option of fruit, gluten free bread/pastries. A hot breakfast could have been purchased at an extra cost. My husband doesn't eat pork so to see 'slabs' of ham on a plate as soon as we entered the 'restaurant' was not very appealing, especially as there were no separate utensils to use for the slabs of ham & cheese. When we asked if they had an alternate for pork we were told there were only vegan sausages. No chicken, fish etc. We were told this very ubruptly and made us feel very awkward and unwelcome so we left and went to a cafe for our breakfast. Because of this we also didnt want dinner in the hotel. We were made to feel very unwelcome at breakfast because of our dietary needs. There is not much option for the 'continental breakfast', nor many utensils to use for the different foods.
Overall we enjoyed our stay in our room but would have booked elsewhere had we known the eating...
