Who ate all the pies!
My first visit to this lovely place today - Bank Holiday Monday and... considering I live a short bike ride away....I've never even heard of it. What have I been missing!
Firstly, the warm welcome from the two ladies serving was so uplifting. How many times do you go somewhere and its hard for the staff to even give you eye contact! Just even asking how my day was going - just made me feel at home. I was a bit hesitant to wait, to be honest, as the queue seemed enormous but I'm glad I did as the ladies breezed through the customers without impersonality and before you knew it, you were at the front. Now, O yes, onto the goodies.... well, I ordered a steak pie for me and a cheese pasty for my friend. The pie - wow - the filling for one was awesome (Hollands pies should take a leaf out of your book for sure!). What value. I was so impressed, I rejoined the queue on my way out and ordered two of there gigantic sausage rolls and another pie to have at home (not the sane day - well - might be lol). The owner Dane who served me even gave me unheated ones so I could reheat them later - cheers Dane - they were perfecto! Can't wait to come back again to try some more goodies ..... O and the bakewell slice I snuck in my takeaway order whilst I was waiting was yummy too!
I will definitely be back....a...
Read moreWe've passed this place many times since it first opened but never called in. Today we'd had a long walk and called in for a coffee on our way home.
As the name indicates, Riverbank Coffee is located on the northern bank of the Mersey, close to the Kickety Brook footpath, and can only be reached on foot, bike, or horseback. It's a nice little spot, fairy lights in the trees, and a few interesting bits and bobs scattered around, barrels as tables and a wooden rowing boat by the entrance. The building is a portakabin and it is purely a takeaway. At the side of the hut there's a bike rack, so if you've cycled you can lock your bike up while you have a break.
The menu has the usual array of coffees (different types of milk available), as well as hot chocolate, tea, and soft drinks, plus a selection of pies, sausage rolls, cakes, crisps, and chocolate bars. Service is a similar arrangement to Starbucks, where you place your order, are asked for your name (never heard the phrase "ticket name" before), then you wait for somebody to call your name when your drink is ready. Considering the place wasn't overly busy when we went and there were about half a dozen people working in the hut, service was very slow. The coffee itself was fine - nothing remarkable - and it warmed us up ready for...
Read moreI have a walk here at least once or twice a week. When the sun is out, it's a lovely 2.5mile walk for me each way. But also when the sun is out, it can be pretty busy. Especially at weekends when they do breakfast barms, although sometimes they do them during the week too, and during holidays. Always a nice atmosphere though. I'm actually sat there\here writing this review now, and it's busy with a full spectrum of visitors, and a few dogs. Be aware that if the weather isn't great, the walk can be pretty muddy though. Food is great as are the drinks, and although I've never tried them, apparently the sausage rolls are brilliant. Well worth the walk. Hidden next to the Mersey and only accessable by foot. Nice to look out at the various birds too around here. Occasionally u may even see the parakeets. Prices are very reasonable, and coffee...
