Lovely food unfortunately spoiled by truly awful service. We have enjoyed many a happy time here at the Bridge Inn and looked forward to a nice meal this afternoon. We pre-booked a table for two, rightly or wrongly assuming it was in the restaurant area where we have always been seated after pre-booking. Today on arrival we were met by whom I am guessing was the manageress or supervisor. The welcome wasn't best ever, simply met by 'Are you alright'. I explained we had booked a table for two and then we were simply directed into the bar area where football was being shown on the TV Screen, dogs were present and loud families were sat and told to take our pick of one of two tables that were free. Please do not think that I am in any way against this type of area, it was great to see families enjoying quality time together, but having booked a table for two, it really was not what I was expecting. Thinking that the restaurant area must have been closed for some reason, I went over to take a look. It wasn't closed and in fact all the tables were free and set ready for customers. When our waiter Callum, who was lovely came over I enquired if we could have a table in the restaurant area. He was a little taken aback but kindly said he would ask. We observed Callum speak to the lady who had met us initially and after a few minutes he came over to us and said we could have a table but would need to vacate it by 4.45pm. Given that it was only 2.40pm we gratefully accepted. As we made our way to the restaurant we passed the lady supervisor and I took time to thank her, it was obvious she was not happy as the response was cold. We were not given a choice but were directed to a table right on the edge of the restaurant area, table number 5 to be precise. There were a number of similar tables available but for some reason we were allocated this one. From the moment we sat down we felt very uncomfortable, feeling that we had upset the applecart. The lady supervisor very soon began moving tables around us making it obvious that we were in the way. Tables immediately next to us and only 2 feet away from us were moved around us and noisily so. I acknowledge that It looked like there was a large booking for later that evening but she made it obvious and rudely spoke with other members of staff referring to our table as 'that', saying...'when that's gone we can move it'. The unnecessary and clumsy moving of tables and arranging of cutlery went on for the best part of the time we were eating. Not once did the supervisor come across to ask how our food and dining experience was. The saving grace of today's meal was the quality of the food, Callum and the two young ladies that attended to us. On paying the bill and tipping due solely to the good food and the young waiting on team I did ask to speak to Kevin who was advertised on the chalk board as being head of the team. It was my intention to raise this poor supervisory service with him but was told he wasn't available. Sadly the lady supervisor completely let Kevin's team down today. She made us feel unwelcome, in the way and not worthy of care and attention. Please please look at the example you are setting your young impressionable team, the future of the hospitality industry. The Bridge is a cracking place serving the best food, supervisors please take note and make your customers...
Read moreArrived at the bridge inn for lunch and was seated straight away with a lovely view. Quite cold as the chefs were in and out with food prep which I found a little odd. Our meals arrived and fish looked microwaved as the batter was soggy. The chicken flatbread looked ok but again the chicken was a bit dry like it had been pre cooked and re heated. I travelled from Portsmouth and this meal was meant to be a family treat. We were left quite disappointed. Later in the afternoon / evening approximately 5-6 hours after I had become violently ill and never experienced anything like this in my life. My family had also become poorly all within hours of each other. We made contact with the manager an my family member also returned back to the bridge inn as I was too poorly to do so and he said this could have been a number of reasons why this happened, drinks, ice machine etc and this would be looked into. Forms were also completed on site. We were told that a refund would be given along with compensation. The manager has now ignored numerous emails and we have heard nothing since. I have had investigations and proven to have had food poisoning. We were also told that this kitchen was also closing the week after for a refurbishment. I wish I knew this at the time. Avoid this place at all costs. Management are now responding to our reviews with false information but couldn’t respond to our emails with what was agreed on site. Working in the food industry Kevin I’m shocked that you don’t actually know the correct timeline of when food poisoning can take affect. This is actually 30 mins to 8 hours. This will be...
Read moreCan't judge the food as we haven't dined here since the last people who ran it were in charge. This time, we just had a drink sat on the upper terrace. There was a good feeling to the evening, and the fading sunshine led to a warm atmosphere. The people were happy, the service had improved somewhat on what we had experienced a while back before we fell out with the place due to the attitude of the front of house staff. Slowly but surely, this pub is finally returning to the place that it should be in the local community and a place that people can use as a local without the feeling that it is trying to be something that it is not such as a "Gastro Pub" which is such an outdated concept. I've just been in again in glorious weather, and the service is good. I've been in a few times this week. We have a bottle of wine to share, and last Sunday, we had a meal. My lamb shank was gorgeous, and the Mash was lovely, gravy not to salty, and the veg cooked really well. My wife had the cheese and onion pie and loved it. I've got an HND in Hotel & Catering, so I'm quite critical when eating out. This place is on the up. Well done. Back in again tonight, hospitality is great and staff wonderful. We can't recommend this place enough. Cannot update this review as the place is still as good. Went in for a meal tonight. My wife had the cheese pie, I had the sweet maple bacon chop, our long-term friends had the soup and bread with chips on the side, and the lamb shank. All I can say is the food was superb and a hike up from the last ownership. If I keep on adding to this review I'll run...
