An absolute shocker. Older woman (presumably manager) has the personality of a door. Rude, blunt and condescending. Came to eat with my partner and two kids, used to be a good place for food with a belting cheese and onion pie, the menu has since become depleted and you have to run down staff to put an order in. Partner ordered Sunday roast, waitress come back and explained there was none left, partner then ordered fish and chips, waitress come back a few minutes later, no fish and chips and no fish at all available, partner ordered cheese and onion pie NO CHEESE AND ONION PIE?!. Wife being a pescatarian was left with no other choices so she opted for a microwave tomato soup and some microwave pieces of veg in a bowl (veg was rock solid and cost £4). Myself, ordered the firecracker, waitress come back 10 minutes later and there was no firecracker. Ordered a curry, no curry. Forced to order an absolute shocker of a burger. Food took over an hour to come and was an absolute disgrace, don't order the 'cheesy garlic bread' save yourself some money and chew on some cardboard. Young and underpaid waitresses running round like headless chickens. One girl could not stop coughing her guts up every 2 minutes whilst handling people orders and cleaning cutlery, personally if I was managing a place people come for food I would of not had her working or anywhere near customers especially during the recent pandemic....
Read moreCalled in for lunch today and was very pleased with all aspects. There was a function of some sort taking place upstairs and the people came to the bar to order, despite this, service at the bar was quick and the young chap that served me was very cheerful and very polite. I was not aware when I went in, but there was in fact a two for one offer on which made what was already a very good price, an absolute bargain. I elected the feather blade beef with cheese mash and beans, and my good lady had the steak and kidney pudding with chips and peas. The drinks arrived very promptly despite a busy restaurant and bar, closely followed by the food. The feather blade steak was tender and juicy sitting atop beautiful creamy cheese mash. All the food was hot, but properly hot, not microwave hot. The steak and kidney pudding also went down a treat as did the chips and peas. I may not be the biggest eater in the world, but these meals were enough to satisfy and we did not need a desert. All in all, an excellent service with excellent food and a lovely cold pint to accompany it. Well worth a visit, and I will certainly be...
Read moreHaving eaten numerous times at the Roebuck in the past it has been a completely different experience this evening. Food to be fair was good but the service let the whole evening down. The staff were completely un-attentive and left us with dirty pots on the table after we had finished the main course. We had to go to the bar to remind the staff about the dessert course which didn't come so after 20 minutes of waiting had to go back again to find the staff chatting and our dirty plates still on the table!! When we had waited long enough and we decided to leave the sweet was just being made ready but we declined it saying we had waited long enough. We got no explanation and not even a sorry and as we left our dirty pots were still on the table!! It was plainly obvious there was no manager overseeing the situation - this was always in evidence in the past. What a shame - we will not be returning!! Dave &...
