The Mogul — Restaurant in Uttlesford

First impressions were that the place smelt musty and the carpet was falling off the stairs. They had Covid stickers from years ago on the wall and the chairs were tired and tatty.

There was no music playing and the atmosphere was just flat but I know never to judge a book by its cover. Maybe the service would make up for the tatty interior?

But alas, the service had as much to be desired as the decor. Our drinks were served at room temperature with 2 ice cubes in each.

Our waiter sat, served and brought out mains for the table next to us before we even got asked what we wanted to eat.

We were asked to move our baby changing baby as “another table was coming to sit next to us” but nobody ever arrived???

Our main too over an hour to arrive, I had time to go home twice (to get extra provisions for my baby) in the time it took for our food to arrive. I am not joking when I say we was giving it another minute before walking out.

When we mentioned all of this to our waiter, he removed the 3 Luke warm cokes from the bill but point blank refused to take off the service charge and would not accept that we didn’t want to pay it! I have never had this anywhere before! It even says “optional” on the receipt!!

Our food was mediocre for the time it took to prepare and our naan bread was underbaked.

All in all, a TERRIBLE experience.

I would seriously save your money and just get a microwave meal at home because at least it’ll be quick and it won’t...

This was the first time returning to The Mogul in many years, amidst mixed reviews.

The staff were welcoming, however we were pretty much forgotten about once our food order was taken, aside from topping up drinks..

Our party of 5 were all shocked at how long our food took to arrive. From ordering, our main meals took 1hr 40m to be served!! During this time multiple tables were served/had finished and left, including a table larger than ours who arrived after us!

After the meal I then needed to find a member of staff to request a bill, as nobody was paying attention to our table. Needless to say we skipped the service charge.

Overall the food was decent (aside from the dahl, which seemed to be the dregs and mostly liquid) but the service and wait times were unacceptable. I can’t see myself returning any time soon after...

Having been recommended to eat here I had high expectations, however the experience didn't match the hype. We waited a while to be seated, we were then taken downstairs to a cold dingy cellar part of the restaurant. The seating worn and frayed, the decor very tired. We ordered our food, having arrived at 7.30pm, but our food didn't arrive until 8.50pm. The food was good, but not excellent.

I appreciate the restaurant was busy, however I like to be given the choice as to whether I'm prepared to wait an hour and twenty minutes before getting my food. The waiters weren't often seen in that section of the restaurant, so the service sadly lacking.
