Oh, where do I even begin with this Italian takeaway saga? Picture this: I placed an order with such high hopes, my stomach growling in anticipation, Gogglebox fired up on catch up and the Mrs giving me a wink that something more is on the cards! However, ready to enjoy my evening of watching TV and eating ‘nice food’. BUT! little did I know that I was about to embark on a culinary odyssey like no other.
Well over Two hours, yes, TWO HOURS later (for a takeaway), I began to question my life choices. I mean, in that time, I could have written a novel, watched every single episode of Gogglebox EVER….or maybe even taken up a new hobby like mastering the art of pizza-making from scratch!
When I finally mustered the courage to call the restaurant to inquire about the whereabouts of my beloved Italian feast, because let’s face it - nobody wants to be “that person” who calls to chase up where the food is. I was met with a level of customer service that could only be described as "indifferent" at best. “We are extremely busy at the moment”… “Its with the driver” “you will just have to wait” It's as if they were reading their responses from a script. Bearing in mind the order was made at 6pm… it didn’t actually arrive until after 8.45pm and that was after I had to ring them to find out if it was ever going to arrive or not. I was even contemplating driving over and collecting it myself!
When the food finally arrived, I half-expected it to be delivered by a turtle with a backpack, it had taken so long. But the worst part? The dishes were colder than a polar bear's nose in winter. I thought Italian food was supposed to be comforting and warm, but this felt like a betrayal from the Mediterranean itself!
I ordered a pizza (as well as other things but we shall get onto those). It was as thin and hard as my patience after waiting for it to arrive and It's like they swapped the dough for a sheet of cardboard and decided to see if I'd notice. If I wanted a pizza that could double as a frisbee, I’d of just gone to Pets at Home!
So, the mixed grill. WOW. It's like they gathered all the leftover bits and bobs from the kitchen and threw them on a plate, took them to Alton Towers to ride the Nemesis and hoped for a miracle. As soon as I took it out the bag, juices just poured out like Niagara Falls all over the kitchen floor, (the bag was that soggy). The chicken was drier than a desert. The beef I suspect might have been a tribute to the tire tread of the chef's favorite racing car. And finally the lamb was so small it It was like they were playing hide-and-seek with my taste buds, and the lamb was winning because I couldn't taste it anywhere!
The chips were good, but you can’t really get those wrong.
So there you have it, everyone. My Italian takeaway experience was a slow-motion disaster of epic proportions. It's safe to say I won't be ordering from here again… unless I develop the superpower of extreme patience and a love for poor Italian food. Please note however, I have ordered from here many times, but more recently the food has just got worse and worse, so not anymore. No, Grazie!!!

Read moreWell, what has been a positive nice experience previously at capri wakefield definitely was not replicated this time and unfortunately has put me off returning.
We arrived and was shown to our table as normal with no issues. The waiter came over and took our drinks order, again, no issues.
The waiter (younger male with tattoos on hands) then came and took our food order and was joking about what we had ordered (garlic bread with tomato and cheese to share) was a great choice and joked that my partner would want more slices than me as it’s so nice.
I also ordered a calzone with no mushrooms for my main and again he joked that’s it’s such a popular order with no mushrooms the restaurant has set up a button dedicated to no mushrooms.
Our starter came which was incorrect, it was just cheese and garlic bread with no tomato. Given this was the first order which was wrong it wasn’t too much of an issue and we didn’t complain or mention anything. I would note that it took almost an hour from ordering until we received our starter but again we didn’t complain about this.
The main courses came and unfortunately my calzone was incorrect and was packed with muchrooms.
At this point I did send this back and advised that our starter was also incorrect. I didn’t want anything for it but to perhaps to highlight 2/2 meals were incorrect. The waiter checked the order which had been put through and the original waiter had put it through wrong (cheesy garlic bread) and calzone (no mention of no mushrooms).
I think if he spent less time trying to be funny and bantering and more time just waiting on the table he would benefit more.
Whilst we were waiting for our mains another member of staff came and asked us to stand up and move whilst she needed to get to a cupboard for a remote to turn the fire down. Again, on its own not a big thing but coupled with 2/2 meals that were wrong it just adds to the negative experience. Why put a table close to somewhere you need to visit frequently?
The food was also average, which is unusual as I was impressed the last time we visited capri Wakefield.
All in all a disappointing restaurant and we won’t be returning and I will no longer be recommending this restaurant to family/ friends as I have...
Read morePLEASE READ IF COELIAC May I firstly apologise for having to leave such a poor review. Our party of eight was for both a Birthday and 40th Wedding Anniversary celebration. I feel I need to highlight the problems we encountered on our recent visit enabling changes to take place for other customers, therefore making a more enjoyable experience. 1. Three of the eight meals were delivered wrong, this could easily be rectified by the waiter/waitress repeating back the order to make sure everything is correct. 2. I feel very strongly that staff working in the hospitality food industry should fully understand the health implications of serving gluten to a person living with coeliac disease. This should be provided in training and education for serving the food they are delivering to tables. We always ensure that the restaurants we visit as a family are aware we are ordering gluten free for one member of the party. We did this on this occasion but a starter order of mussels was delivered with bread placed on the top? .. Instantly enquired, was this Gluten Free? informed that it was. Enquired was the bread G.F..Informed they would have to check in the kitchen, returned immediately and informed the bread was not Gluten Free, and told to not eat the bread? It was explained to the waiter that the meal could not be eaten by just removing the bread, so this was taken back to the kitchen and hopefully a new plate of mussels delivered. A G.F Pizza was ordered for the main course. Ordering gluten free is not always just a fad diet, personal choice or a food intolerance. When serving a person with Coeliac, mistakes in preparation and cross contamination will result in long term health implications. Since our visit on Friday one member of our party 3 days later still has severe stomach cramps, Bloating , D & V , Headaches, Severe rash on Face, Neck and Chest the side effects also resulting in severe fatigue. The episodes of giving gluten to a person with coeliac results in long term damage to the stomach lining. I apologise if this review sounds harsh but our visit in this instance was memorable only for the wrong reasons. Many thanks for taking the time to...
