Markie's — Restaurant in Wakefield

I had a really disappointing experience here recently. I placed an order over the phone and clearly repeated multiple times that I wanted a mixed donner kebab in a pitta. When we arrived, they had made a donner pizza instead. They insisted we must have said it wrong, which absolutely wasn’t the case as we know what we ordered. What made it worse is that they don’t even offer a mixed donner kebab pizza, only a regular donner one, so their excuse didn’t even make sense. Instead of admitting the mistake, the staff were rude, unhelpful, and just stood there giving us attitude while trying to hand over the incorrect (and more expensive) item. Eventually, they made the correct order, but it was given to us like it was some kind of punishment. The kebab was dry, the customer service was poor, and the whole experience felt uncomfortable. I understand mistakes can happen, but blaming the customer and being unpleasant about it isn’t the way to handle it. Staff need training on how to handle situations like this because you’re gonna lose customers over silly...

Eat in capable - good variety for kids; limited seating with around 7-8 tables in a cosy setting / good for a quick sit down and eat while you look out across to the busy Horbury Road and greenery around Thornes Park 😉

Gave Markie's a second chance after a disappointing first visit because their online reviews suggested I'd hallucinated my initial experience. Turns out, the first time was their good day. The 'spicy dipper' burger arrived as a zinger so salty it could de-ice a highway, while the smash burger was so bland it seemed offended by the concept of flavor. Only the fries showed up with any culinary competence. Either everyone else in town is eating at a different Markie's, or taste buds are being handed out at the door. Two strikes and I'm out—some relationships just aren't meant to be, no matter how many five-star reviews play...
