This is my local park. It's connected to Thornes Park and Holmfield Park.
It's a lovely space with lots of different areas from the tennis courts and the bowling club to Holmfield House (dog friendly pub), the band stand area, the amphitheatre all the way across to the playground, skatepark, the running track and the lovely walks throughout the various parks.
There's bits of history with the bandstand, the water trough and the cannon site. This is well hidden but worth finding for the view.
Most of it is mobility scooter friendly from the duck pond and aviary as well as the rose garden.
You can only drive so far into the park, only up to the campus where there's lots of parking.
Dogs are welcome and can be see training on some days, running free and on leads. Lots of rubbish bins for poo bags.
The playground has gone through several changes since I moved to Wakefield in 1977. Currently there's a small fenced area for little ones with swings, slides and bouncy things. The flooring is very soft so no bruises after falls.
The larger playground has what I know as a witches hat rope climbing area, swings, a huge slide and various rocks to climb on. Again the ground surface has been treated to reduce broken bones following any falls.
And behind that is the ride on railway. It's a little treasure enjoyed by adults and children alike.
There is an ice-cream van in the car park next to the playground and a second one over by the duck pond.
There is also a little cafe near the duck pond but not sure of the opening times sorry.
I highly recommend this park, oh and I almost forgot, at certain times of the year there is a rollercoaster and different rides usually next to the playground and there used to be concerts in the band stand ( if they are still going on you need to take your own seats)

There's a pond and aviary, a rose garden and greenhouse, a secret garden (usually this area is quite), a park with a small miniature railway (yet to see it open), an athletic stadium and gym. Tennis courts, putting, pitch n put and green bowls. A lovely dog friendly cafe (cash only) near the pond. However I've heard it can be...
