Nostalgic kitchen — Restaurant in Wakefield

My partner and I went here around 3pm having read the fab reviews. It did not disappoint.

On walking in, their expectations in strange times were written and plenty of hand sanitizer provided. Brilliant.

We were greeted warmly at the door and had our temperature checked and shown to the table. All staff had masks on.

When shown to the table, I was impressed that the menus were on the table under a clear cover to avoid touch and hand sanitizer was on every table. Brilliant.

Plenty of choice on the menu plus a specials board. We both had the fish pie which came with a side of thick cut homemade chips, carrots and broccoli. I would go back for the chips alone! The fish pie was divine. Never have I seen such huge chunks of fish in a pie. A much needed, hearty home cooked meal. We have booked to go back tomorrow.

I must add the personal service from the Chef was the icing on the cake. He was the only one preparing the meals but still took the time to speak to every table. Very impressed. I can't wait for...

Stopped by this pub on the way through on a road trip because of the high reviews, unfortunately though yet another disappointing pub.

We ordered the chicken special in bbq gravy sauce with cheese, but the chicken was just small and swimming in a bowl of gravy. Tasted like bbq but is nothing like an honest hunter's chicken.

Also ordered the bangers and mash, but mash tasted weird to me, didn't go down well at all.

We also ordered the steak pie special and veg curry, of which the veg curry was probs the most decent of the lot.

Unfortunately what was missing more than anything else though was salt! Basic seasoning would have done wonders for these dishes no doubt. To say on the menu the owner, chef whatever has 40 plus years experience in the catering industry and trained under 2 mitchiln chefs, quite a disappointment.

My best advice for anyone considering coming here, dont come for the food. Drinks yes, the lovely staff and good customer service yes,...

Booked a table here last night Food was amazing lovely pub full of character .the service was very slow for taking our order , the waitress was stood at the bar just staring into space , tried to get her attention to say we were ready to order finally was getting up when she came over .The other waitress that was serving other table's was really on the ball and quick to ask if anyone needed anything eles , even though she said she normally works behind the bar .hopefully we'll get her next time . I cannot rate the food highly enough I had the pie and my husband had the lamb , beaufiful , then finished off with rice pudding served in a little pan. Complements to the chef .
