Not a place for families! My friend and I were at Thornes Park last Thursday. We were so happy for a bit of sun and wanted to give the kids some fresh air after being couped up all week because of the rain. I took boots for my two thinking it might be a bit muddy but none of us were prepared for how muddy it was on the park. But it's the park and if you are going to conduct a business on the park you should be prepared for a) noise because kids aren't programmed to sit still and not move especially at 3 years of age and b) mud
As soon as our party walked through the door everyone turned and stared like we had four heads. There were two adults and four children. Us adults weren't too muddy but the kids shoes were and the two boys had fallen in the park so had mud on their trousers (as kids do!)
We proceeded to order and pay for drinks and scones and I took them all to the toilet to wash their hands. My friends eldest got told by the presumed owner of the cafe that he could not sit down on the chair. My friend wasn't too pleased by this as you can imagine especially as the chair could easily be wiped clean. He sat down as told to by his mum.
As soon as we were all out of the toilet the presumed owner was straight in with a bucket to clean (I had only washed their hands in the sink)
Comments that followed after from this lady such as "Where have you been?" And something about her ears hurting already were disgusting.
They could not have made us feel more unwelcome if they tried. Being on a park I thought they would be family friendly but we did not find them...
Read more0 stars, INSENSITIVE TO DISABILITIES, my mother was HUMILIATED by the manager in front of all the customers after my mother, with severe Crohns Disease, came in, explained her disability and asked to use the toilet quietly (now desperate!), if she could buy something after using the facility. She was loudly REFUSED until she bought something there and then to sit in. In the end the manager gave in, after loudly reiterating that we HAD TO SIT IN to eat repeatedly, we weren't even allowed to buy and take out even though they sell packet-ed food. My mother nearly soiled herself in front of the entire cafe. Needing the toilet with Crohns Disease cannot be held off to buy something, we would have bought something regardless of whether we wanted it after my mother had used the toilet. The manager loudly refused my mother in front of everyone and then we had to sit in, humiliated in front of all the customers who heard everything...i understand if it is streams of people taking advantage, but people with illnesses who cannot hold off?! I've seen a review for a pregnant lady who was also refused too, it's disgusting. I live around the corner and will not be using this cafe - a would-be frequent...
Read moreHow sad and disappointing, after a beautiful walk with my daughter and our dog in the park, I urgently needed the Toilet and there are no public toilet to my knowledge, the cafe in the park has a notice outside saying you cannot use their toilet unless you are a customer. I went inside and explained that I had crohns disease and urgently needed the toilet, I understood I had to buy something but please could I go to the toilet. After very loudly in front of all the customers who turned round and staff watching my humiliation she said I must sit inside and can only use the toilet if I sit inside, by this point, nearly soiling myself and close to tears I agreed, I said I would order 2 teas and pay but I needed the toilet before sitting down, at this point she agreed. After using the toilet I then had to sit in the cafe full of people I had been humiliated In front of. Thank goodness I had some money otherwise I would have soiled myself in the cafe. It's such a shame because it looks a lovely dog friendly cosy cafe that I would have used often had the been understand, I am now also scared to go to...
