Bit of a frustrating experience. I phoned in advance asking if there was space in the cafe for six people with three dogs and was told yes. Turned up, and as it turns out there are no tables for more than four in the dog-friendly area. I explained what I had been told, and the waitress said yes, there's room for six, four on one table and two on another (six feet away from one another). I don't think it needs explaining that when a customer phones asking if you can seat six people, that they're not asking whether you have six seats in your cafe, they're asking for six people to be seated together. I asked if we could move two tables together and was told no, because it might make access to other tables tricky. I thought I'd found a solution with moving another table, so asked the same person, who then proceeded to speak to me as if I was something he'd stepped in. The excuses given amounted to "that's the layout, sod off". He was determined to believe I was suggesting cutting off access to another table, which of course I wasn't, but he seemed to enjoy being rude, and you can't reason with those sorts of people. I wouldn't have minded if I hadn't been told on the phone that there is room for six people. The purpose of our visit was to introduce my parents to my partner's parents in advance of our wedding, so splitting the party up ruined the experience. Unfortunately we had few other options nearby otherwise I would have left, which I'm sure would have pleased them. If you don't enjoy being talked down to, bland food, grubby menus, and being whispered about (loudly, thanks), give it a miss.
Edit: I have noticed the owner (the rude character in my review), replies to reviews with never a single intention to make improvements or acknowledge mistakes or poor service. He must be practically perfect in every way, a world first!
Another edit: the owner has seen fit to dig into my identity to find my surname and post it. I've heard from other locals that he can be very spiteful and arrogant, this much is obvious. Pride comes...
Read moreI have been ordering food from here and supporting them throughout the lockdown pandemic by having deliveries collected by friends and family as I’ve been in lockdown for over 18 months. I was rewarding my helpers with bacon and egg baps and the like and having their frozen chilli.
I lost my Wife last june (2020), and haven’t ventured out until recently at all.
Now that I finally was able to go out and sit outside for coffee and some light cafe food, of course, I went there. It was fine for a short while until recently.
I noticed that they very quickly wipe the tables but not sanitise properly at all, just a quick wipe over and didn’t spray anything whatsoever: so I began to ask if they’d just wipe the metal arms of my chair as everyone touches the chairs in order to sit down when they pull it under them.. It hadn’t been a problem at all for the servers over the past couple of weeks. Until that is, the other day when I asked this particular man who I’d never seen before if he’d mind just wiping over the metal chair arms for me to sit down whilst he wiped the table.
His reply, “I’m not here to wipe chair arms, just tables”. I stressed that I had multiple clinical issues such as diabetes and COPD, but yet again he refused and just repeated the same thing again.
I pointed out that nobody actually touches a table but all people touch the chairs arms each and every time, and then their food and then the chair arms again. He point blank and rudely refused. I asked if he was the owner and he confirmed that he was.
When I pointed out that I spent more than £300 per month at his cafe and wanted to feel safe, he shrugged his shoulders and replied that “people touch everything”.
His reply says it all really....
Read morei went in to get 2 brews.
walked through the cafe, no questions, all fine. ordered both drinks with the owner and asked to use the toilet
he asked if i had a mask and if not then i couldn't use it. i explained I am exempt due to a wheezing issue and that masks lower oxygen which is not what I need right now.
he outirght refused, i explained about the equality act 2010 and disabilities act and he said where is your exemption card. i dont have one of them. he instantly said no, refused me outright and told me that its HIS shop and he will do what he wants.
disgusting behaviour in a cafe that when lockdown happened fully, myself and my wife bought drink from there everyday for weeks in hope to help a small business even a little.
Now i fear i made a mistake and shouldn't have done that and frequented a different cafe.
If you are disabled or exempt i would out right not go here. instead head to Marmalade around the corner who have a better consideration for disabilities
Edit: you went completely against the equality act. I can not wear a mask and should be victimised into doing so regardless of who you are protecting. The law does state that you could receive up to £9,000 fine.
I felt and was victimised for an issue that you can not see. I explained it you out right refused asking me questions that go against legalities. Not right at all. You have lost local customers who come to you out of season and throughout the lockdown and it has...
