Freshman’s Fish & Chips — Restaurant in Wales

We were a party of 8 visiting the area including 2 small children and decided to eat inside.

Food was average but not expensive and cost £55.00 for all of us to eat there.

Was expecting something a bit more due to this being located in the bay and local competition.

Chips and the mushy peas were too dry and the fish batter was far too thick, which was very crunchy.

When the food was ready they did not have any small sausages for the children and substituted this for a large sausage betwen the 2. Unfortunately the children didn't eat this and they said it was too spicey. I'm not sure if the small sausages are the same.

Staff were pleasant enough and accommodating.

Would suggest that they check their stock before confirming and paying for the order and not at point of serving whilst we were all sat down for 15 minutes waiting for the food to arrive.

I can’t rate atmosphere as I had a takeaway. A bonus when picking up is they do a curbside pickup option so you don’t even have to get out of the car. I read a number of reviews for various fish and chip shops in the local area as am here on holiday so didn’t know the area. I chose based on previous reviews and I have to say was not disappointed. I ordered Haddock, large battered sausage and large chips to share with my wife. The portions were a good size, the batter wasn’t greasy at all and chips were tasty. Very upset with this establishment. They offer a pensioners fish and chip meal for £4.99. They don't allow dogs and so we asked for the meal, fish, chips peas, tea bread and butter, to be served at their tables outside. They told us we couldn't have that meal outside, but we could have any takeaway on the menu! That defeated the object of having the meal for £4.99. It would cost us more to eat it out of polystyrene!!! The manager was VERY rude to me. There was nothing on the sign to say we couldn't have the offer outside. I am hurt...
