First Impressions
Friendly and welcoming staff. Interior was warm, clean and modern. Split into a bar area on one side and the restaurant on the other. The clientele seemed to be families and elderly friends. Sat next to a nice lady who is a regular and said the dinners are great and the staff “couldn’t do enough for you”.
Booking normally welcomed but they managed to fit me in and did not feel like an inconvenience.
Menu
Only Sunday Dinner menu served on Sundays. Food
Went for the 2 courses of beef dinner and dessert. Had an Americano coffee too. Beef dinner comprised of: Beef Boiled potatoes Roast potatoes Peas Carrots Cauliflower Mashed swede Parsnip Yorkshire pud Gravy
You could request more vegetables at no extra cost.
The dinner was excellent. All the vegetables felt fresh and were presented nicely in a silver tray. Plate already came with plenty of gravy and they provide a gravy boat too. All sauces you would expect (horseradish, apple, mint etc.) available on request.
The beef was tender and juicy. They provided 3 slices which is about the right amount. All veg was cooked to satisfaction for most part - roast potatoes slightly overdone and had hardened skin - but this is a minor grievance and the insides were still fluffy and tasty.
The winner is the gravy. It is so rich and meaty tasting and complimented the beef. I wonder whether they have a chicken gravy if you went for the chicken dinner. 🤔
After the dinner I was so full and did not want anything too stodgy or sickly sweet for dessert. Thankfully, they probably have the most dessert choices I have ever seen for any restaurant. After some careful consideration I went for the Bakewell Tart, which to my pleasant surprise, came with either cream or ice cream.
With so many desserts to choose from, I don’t think the desserts are made in-house, but that didn’t matter to me. The presentation was spot-on, and they even had a biscuit crumb on the bottom of the ice cream to a.) prevent the ball of ice cream sliding and b.) give the contrasting texture. I love almond and cherry flavours so this was always going to be a thumbs up.
Overall Experience
Excellent. I didn’t know what to expect walking into the pub. Gentleman behind the bar quickly gave me his attention despite being in the middle of pouring a pint for another customer. Ushered me to the restaurant area to ask whether there was any space, because usually you would have to book. There were 3 or 4 customers queueing for takeaway dinners.
The service was quick, but not rushed. Ordered my drink within 2 mins of being seated and it arrived within another 2 mins. There were about 6 waitresses and all were dressed appropriately and were friendly.
There were multiple dessert boards hung on the walls but if you couldn’t read it, they would bring one to the table, which I witnessed one group doing.
I will definitely be back again and will be singing their praises to...
Read moreI had high expectations of this place as I had eaten here before from the lunch menu. This time I ordered from the specials board, I was really looking forward to the Malay fish curry. I was a bit put off when asked if I wanted chips with it, I thought thats not very traditional.
When food arrived it looked awful, my friend ordered the mixed grill which is not cheap at £27, again his looked awful and no care was put into presentation. I tasted my food and it was dreadful it tasted like someone had mixed curry powder and water and that was it. I immediately complained, the server took my food away, about five minutes passed and the chef came out saying he just tasted it and "it does taste like sh!t" he also stated the it was the other chef that made it and a big batch of it, and that he would never have served it if he'd known, so the fact he hadn't tasted it before serving shows they don't taste anything before serving.
I wont be going back...
Read moreHeard good things, so after trying out every other local pub/restaurant, we heard this was the best. Nowhere near, the opposite in fact. No choice but to order two courses instead of just a Sunday dinner! Never heard of such a weird rule. The starters are comically bad too, pathetic in fact, three breadcrumb covered mini prawns on a big plate with some bag salad slapped on. My partner had the mushrooms, same standard, supermarket freezer bag breaded mushrooms, 5 small ones rolling around on a big plate, laughable. The dinner was ok but the swede looked almost grey in colour and just two meagre roast potatoes, one the size of a sprout. Gravy was a bit tasteless. Want a good dinner? Go to loughor and the Rev James, nicer place, way better food and much better prices, or Seagers. Won't be going back to the Kingsbridge ever again £80+ quid for...
