Langdons is modern and is in a good location. The staff are friendly enough but on a recent visit at the end of August my positive view of them changed. Initially we were sitting for a while wondering if it was table service or you had to go to the bar. As the 3 young women were chatting behind the bar I assumed it was bar service. When I asked which is it one of them said oh it's both but you can order at your table if you like. I said that would be a bit silly as I had been sitting there for 20 minutes and I am now standing at the bar.
My girlfriend and I were subsequently served our drinks and were waiting for our food. A young lad arrived with our meals in due course. Unfortunately instead of serving the food from behind us on our left side he served the food across our drinks. Bad idea! He clearly hadn't been trained properly. He knocked my full drink of coke into my lap and all over my shirt. Whilst apologetic it was a completely avoidable incident. I didn't have a proper change of cloths and had to use a thermal t-shirt and some hiking pants I had in the boot of the car, which was less than ideal. my ecco shoes were also ruined as the coke has damaged the suede. We were staying at the boathouse for one night so I had to walk back there in the rain.
By the time I returned my girlfriend had eaten her meal and my meal was ruined because it had been placed under a heat lamp for 20 minutes. The lad who had knocked my drink over made himself scarce upon my return and hid in the kitchen.
There were 3 young women behind the bar who were looking at their smartphones and chatting. We couldn't see any management anywhere. I abandoned what was left of my ruined meal . When we went to pay we received the bill and they'd charged me for the drink that was spilled all over me as well as the replacement. I explained the situation and said the least they could do was give us the drinks for free. In reality they should have given us the whole meal for free. The girls looked bemused and laughed when I said I'd been soaked in Coca Cola. At this point I was furious. They had that typical 'millennial' attitude of not giving a damn with the 'whatever' face they put on. NOT IMPRESSED!
Accidents happen but it's the follow up that counts. The bottom line is they don't know how to serve food in the correct manner and their customer service is left wanting. I won't return despite being a regular visitor to the marina. If things are to improve a member of management needs to be keeping an eye on these young staff, they need to train them how to serve food correctly and mobile phones should be locked away until...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI'd only been here for a drink a couple of years ago. However my best friend decided to choose here as a reunion spot after hearing there was a new menu.
Having walked in we stated we had a table booked to which they guided us at the back out the way which suited us fine. The menu held a combination of asian style dishes to fish and chips. To start I chose one of three cocktails ( a strawberry daiquiri) and my friend the calamari .
The cocktail was the best part of the meal and apparently the calamari tasted fresh. For mains , between us we ordered fish and chips, katsu chicken with summer veg and hake in a sauce. All of these cost around £14 each.
When the food arrived our hearts sank. The battered fish was soggy on top of frozen chips. As for the summer veggie on the side this consisted of tomatoes and salad with a bit of breaded chicken..rice and a small pot of katsu. As for my hake it tasted like one of those boil in a bag. Frozen potatoes oh but the sweet peas were nice. Throughout the meal we were constantly asked if we wanted anymore drinks despite having full vessles. At the end we were forgotten about so walked up to pay. The meal came to £70 which I think is steep for Iceland like food.
I'd pop in for a drink to sit and enjoy the view, as for the food I wouldn't dare...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreThis was my first visit to Langdons, with my wife and I (grandparents), my daughter and son-in-law, plus our two granddaughters (12 years, and 3 years old). We visited on a Sunday. Parking just outside the restaurant is limited as most spaces belong to the nearby apartments, but there are some spare spaces for those who must have easy access. We parked on the main road that runs the length of Newry beach and only had to walk less than 100 metres to the restaurant. The menu that Sunday was a selection of Sunday roasts (predictably) and included beef, pork, lamb, and turkey, with a vegan option. The food was well cooked, delicious, and with generous portions. There was a selection of delicious desserts. I believe those who don't fancy the Sunday roasts can ask for items from the main menu. Service was good with helpful and friendly staff. The decor is tasteful and clean if somewhat minimal, with a relaxed atmosphere. My whole family had a great time and will be visiting again in the future. RECOMMENDED - give...
