edit due to shop's reply - that's not how reviews work. I like to be honest, whether that's great or not. I also don't want to contact you "via email or phone" to complain as I don't like confrontation due to being autistic, and as I say I'm recovering from an operation. Additionally, a passive-aggressive tone without an apology isn't a good look either.
Really gutted. I've had the platter boxes back in 2021 for a birthday and they were delicious. I was bought vouchers by a friend this year, so decided to spend them on a Cheese box and a Treat Box.
My wife and I were so disappointed! The quality seems to have really gone downhill 😞
We're kind of "cheese afficionados' and the cheeses weren't great. Only two were edible. Several were definitely 'on the turn' and basically off, and the rest were stale and dried out. We know what good cheeses are like - we used to be regulars when you were in Cardiff, and regularly go to the cheese shop in Bath, but these just weren't right. It was like they'd been sat outside for days and were near enough / or at the end of their shelf-lives.
The Treat Box wasn't much better - there used to be loads of gorgeous cakes previously, whereas this time two were the same, the brownies were indistinguishable from those you'd buy from a supermarket, and literally ALL of them were, again, stale and practically inedible.
All in all we were severely disappointed. We paid nearly £60 I think, and drive all the way from Cardiff to Abergavenny to collect them, but all for stale, off cheeses (most of which you could buy cheaper in any old Tescos!), and for a load of stale, boring cakes.
I'm hoping this was a one-off, but I suspect that it could simply be that the quality and variety has just decreased to cater for the masses, but there's no excuse for off / on the turn cheeses and stale cakes and scones. Sadly I won't be buying anything else from Madame Fromage as I don't want to spend my hard-earned money just to see if it was a one-off. Really sad, especially as we decided to spend the vouchers whilst I'm recuperating from a painful operation so am housebound and this was meant to cheer me up. Instead I was gutted and much of it had to go in...

From the moment I sank my teeth into the ham and Brie croissant, I knew I was in for a treat. The croissant was perfectly crisp, giving way to a lovely combination of melted cheese and savoury ham, and the accompanying salad completed the croissant oh so well with its burst of flavours and freshness.
The cappuccino was big, bold, and beautifully crafted. The barista's skillful hands worked their magic.
And just when I thought it couldn't get any better, I laid my eyes on the Mocha cake. Picture this: a layered slice of cake, topped with a decadent liquid espresso shot, and accompanied by whipped cream on the side. Need I say more? It was "yummm yumm yumm" with every bite.
But it wasn't just the food and coffee that made my experience at "Madame Fromage". The staff, were kind and helpful. Their warm smiles and attentive service truly added to the joy of my visit. So, from the bottom of my caffeinated heart, I want to extend a heartfelt thank you to everyone at "Madame Fromage" for making my day oh-so-lovely.

Read moreWhat can I say other than this was simply outstanding food and service. Three platters ordered by my wife for my birthday - we've ordered from Madame Fromage before, from their Cwmbran store, so knew to expect quality. So excited to have them open a store in Abergavenny and our first order did not disappoint. We ordered the cheese platter for two, the ploughman's platter for two and the treat box - four of us could barely manage half of what was there. These are seriously generous portions - over 15 different varieties of cheese in the cheese platter alone. Ordering was so simple - a facebook message and awaited a phone call. Cannot fault the service from start to finish. This food is something really special and I think this is a brilliant and very fitting addition to Abergavenny's thriving food culture. I noticed one review referred to this as a 'chain', but my understanding, from chatting to the delivery guy, is that this is a family run business. Having experienced such excellent food, I can only wish them all the best in their new venture. We're already planning our...
