Hen & Chicken — Restaurant in Wales

Popped in yesterday whilst on a day trip from Bristol to the lovely town of Abergervenny, coincidentally the first day they had opened the kitchen.

We were excited about the day seeing the castles and River, but I was vocally more excited about finding a nice cozy pub for lunch. We poked around town and none of the other places grabbed our attention.

Walked in here and a short, young, lady with glasses, I sadly didn’t catch her name, welcomed us so warmly we immediately knew this was our spot! She was really professional about the social distancing, the track and trace, and the one way system. I know how rough some people can be about the covid rules, but she was a saint with keeping everyone informed and pleasant.

I even mentioned it to her when we were paying our bill. I don’t normally point stuff like this out, unless properly deserved. Thank you young lady with glasses! Also a gentleman serving was overwhelmingly friendly, talking to us about Bristol, and just being nice.

Overall it was just a really nice experience, to the point I’ve left a review. Thanks You lot. Can’t wait to come back for a stack of mushy peas and chips!

Oh yea, food was great...

We are staying in the area for the weekend and were looking for a pub that could accommodate 13 adults, 1 baby and 2 dogs at short notice. After little success we called The Hen and Chicken who were really helpful and managed to fit us in at lunchtime today. This is a really friendly pub and we were made to feel very welcome. The menu was great and all of our food was fantastic, especially the roasts! The staff were amazing and nothing was too much trouble. We will definitely visit again when we are in the area next. -Lady behind the bar really friendly -Drinks good -Ham and egg very good, fish and chips no that so (cod was hidden inside a far too greasy batter) -Ambient, so so. Amazing how a single customer ca spoil a meal. Language, farting and laughing about his own manners...simply 🤢 I would suggest the staff to advise people that is going to eat to seat in a different area if the customers on the darts area can't behave themselves. I would go back to drink there if I was sure not to find that kind of "animal" on...
