Penylan Pantry — Restaurant in Wales

Had a cheese hamper bought for Christmas,not a great experience. The alarm bells should have gone off when postman handed men the hamper,in a plastic bag complaining about the smell. I opened the hamper realise it was cheese hamper,and I am fan of strong cheeses. I stuck the offending cheeses in zip lock, just not to stink out the fridge. To cut a long story short, all of the cheese had gone off except one vacuum packed one. The hamper was gift from a dear friend,I don't want to offend the gift bearers feeling. I could not find any best before dates,on the offending cheese. So just be warned when buying cheese hamper,I don't think it's good idea. Lucky nobody got food poisoning, but I do feel cheated. Such a lovely brunch/lunch spot. We missed the brunch cutoff (12pm) but they still had plenty on offer from pastries, cakes, brownies, savouries (sausage rolls, quiches) and a couple of different salads. I had a mixed salad plate with goats cheese and the portion was very generous (especially of the goats cheese), and the selection of salads was spot on! So hard to find a place that does a good salad these days. Staff were all very friendly and didn't seem to mind at all when my 3 month old started grizzling a bit. Their honey salted brownie was top tier- I will be back purely for this alone 🤤🤤 we went on a Wednesday for lunch and it was quite busy with a couple seats outdoors too. On the smaller side with around 10/12 tables or so but i had no issues with finding a spot to tuck...

Absolutely love this place - it’s been one of my favourite spots in Cardiff for lunch or a coffee for years. The quality of food is consistently excellent, the staff are so lovely, welcoming and accommodating, including with dietary requirements (I have a nut allergy), the coffee is excellent and the atmosphere is lovely both inside and outside. I also love the little extras they sell and often pick up presents for people in here. My favourite is the Glamorgan sausage roll, especially with their salads, and LOVE the salted dark chocolate brownies.
