Just called in for a pint, with a view to making a booking for several people. The woman behind the bar pulled me a pint, and I gave her a £10 note. She gave me the change and then wandered off into the restaurant, leaving my beer behind . Managed to get her attention, and she came back and gave me my beer. Normally, I would write this off as just forgetfulness ,we all get it at some point, but subsequently, when I approached the bar to enquire about booking a meal for several people, although there were three persons behind the bar, none of which were sèrving, I was ignored. I was seen by the bar staff, and there was . " else standing at the bar. I gave it 20 seconds but no one made the effort to serve me. So I will now go to another pub restaurant with the several other people in our group and spend our monies there. Bad customer service.
Update to my review. We gave it another try the following evening, inviting friends to meet us there. Unfortunately, another poor experience. I stood at the bar and explained to the barman? Maybe the manager( he didn't identify himself) about what had happened the previous evening. I would have preferred to have been taken to one side to talk about my experience, but I was forced to explain what had happened in front of other patrons at the bar. Obviously, it's not a place to discuss negative issues. This was resolved with a 20% discount, which I was happy to accept. However, when we sat down, we noticed that several tables had not had the dirty plates removed after the guests had left and that there were quite a few chips that had been dropped on the floor in the area where people would walk, obviously a hazard! When we were leaving,we mentioned the dropped food on the floor to a passing member of staff, we were told . "It doesn't matter, it's okay. " My wife, who uses a crutch to walk, pointed out that it wasn't okay and that the crutch had slipped on a dropped chip, causing her to stagger to one side.
When the food arrived, it was not the best value. Looking back on previous reviews of a couple of years ago, it seems that the Red Kite had a good reputation. Unfortunately, this is not the case now. I have discussed the problems with people who live in the area, and it is a general consensus that the Red Kite is no longer the Pub it used to be.
Thank you for taking the time to read my review. Unfortunately, I live in the Canary Islands, and this was my first visit back to the UK since pre Covid. I subsequently visited the Cwrt Rawlin, which is also a Marstons Pub, and is situated opposite the Red Kite. The contrast was startling. Very busy, but staff coped well. A short wait for food and dirty plates were cleared as soon as diners had finished...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreWe booked a table a day before our meal, arrived at 6:55pm to be told by the waiter he'd have to find a table. What's the point in booking in advance š¤. We were taken to the Table and told a waiter/waitress would come to the table and take a drinks order...After 10 minutes I went to the bar and ordered drinks. Only 1 bar person. Went back to my table after eventually being served to be told by my wife that no one had come to take our order. We sat patiently for another 20 mins and tried to get the attention of a member of the serving staff only to be ignored. The table next to us had just finished their main meal and a waitress turned up asking them if they would like dessert, to which my wife pointed out to her that we had been wait approximately 25 mins to be served, after serving the table next to us with their dessert another member of staff finally came to our table to take our order. We ordered our food and ordered some more drinks. Then after another 25 minutes we had to ask when our food would be ready as customers who had ordered after us were getting their food served. We were getting ready to leave when eventually our food came to our table. I ordered Surf and Turf asking for the steak to be medium rare. If came to my table very well done. My Wife orderd Hunters Chicken, her chicken breast was also over cooked and dry. We did eat the meal as I work 12hr shifts and had not eaten since lunch. In total from arriving at 6:55pm our food was served at 8:10 pm. We did receive a discount on our meal, however we don't think we will return in the near future. The only Plus side is, since its referb it now has an area where you can sit and just...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreBooked a table online. Arrived at the pub and there was no-one on the door to greet us. At the bar we were told by a young lady to take a seat at the lounge area as she had to clean the table, but she never came back to collect us. Waited for about 10 minutes and asked another member of staff what was going on. We then found out another party had been seated at our table! Some tables were then rearranged by the other member of staff in order for us to be seated. At this point we found out the same girl who was supposed to seat us earlier was now our waitress for today - great! We had to prompt her to take our food order which took some time while she huffed at the tablet she was holding because it wasn't working properly. When the food arrived it was brought by someone else not the waitress. The food was ok and no complaints about it, but the waitress did not come back to the table to check if the food was ok. We had to again prompt her for the bill - there was no offer of desserts prior to this or any effort made to clear the empty plates. In summary, the service is really hit and miss at this pub. Some staff seem to be run off their feet and others look as if they'd rather be anywhere else but serving customers. Around a year ago we had a similar experience with a waitress who basically ignored us the whole time and sat and talked with her friends at a nearby table. We had hoped with different management that things might have changed so was willing to give it another try, but obviously this is asking too much. Won't be going back...
