This restaurant was recommended to us whilst staying on the beautiful island of Anglesey and we booked for a table of 8 for a mid afternoon lunch/dinner. The place is of a good size with a large car park next to it which can be paid at machine or by the PayByPhone app. It cost me £6 for 4 hours but there is parking for free on the road should you be lucky enough to find a space.
When walking in, there's a coffee bar and ice cream parlour to your right for people who want to grab a drink and treats for the kids after a day on the beach opposite the premises. As you walk into the restaurant, you are immediately hit by a vibrant restaurant with lots of sea faring decor and a decent amount of space with lots of tables that aren't shoulder to shoulder with other customers. I particularly loved the up-turned boats on the ceiling with fitted lights shining down over the tables. You should note that this is a dog friendly restaurant which suited us as we had a dog with us and was one of the main reasons for picking it.
The menus have an extensive choice for meat, fish and vegetarian lovers alike. We didn't opt for starters on this occasion but food portions are a good size so there was no chance leaving on an empty stomach. I opted for the Sea Shanty Steak Sandwich which was looking very popular looking at the number of these I saw the waitresses taking to tables. To be honest, this turned out to be the best steak sandwich I've had to date. The generous portion of meat was tender with plenty of mushroom and onion topped with cheese. This was put between a lovely panini bread served with a fresh tasting salad and perfectly cooked fries. I tried a fork of my wife's mushroom risotto and my sons lamb bolognese, both also tasting amazing. I went for a Biscoff Cheesecake, the cheesecake of the day, and was also one of the best I've had. I'm incredibly fussy with Cheesecake so was genuinely pleased with this.
Service was excellent with polite staff delivering food in good time so a great experience on the whole. Looking forward to visiting again on...
Read moreWas really looking forward to visiting the Sea Shanty after following on social, has a really current vibe and is a great looking place with a fantastic location, external bar and seating which is a great addition, especially when coming off the beach. Inside, the decor as expected, full of Sea and Boat related bits. Loads to keep you looking at!. Extremely busy, so book if you want to go. We did as our son is a wheelchair user. The service, we were promptly seated, menus already on the table!👍, However it then took just under 30 minutes to get a drink order, real shame as it has loads of promise and expectations, but by this time the excitement of the experience was beginning to dwindle and it became a bit more questionable if we had made the right decision. The drinks order came quickly once ordered, good premium products and served well, good temperature and friendly bar staff making recommendations. The food order was taken 10 mins after the drinks arrived, we ordered a selection of small plates to share, the food arrived very quickly. The quality was good, all served hot and delivered at the same time. The scallops were cooked to perfection, you couldn't ask for any better 👌😋 They did not disappoint, not did the fish cakes, the croquettes, the calamari and the salt and pepper chicken 👌 the mussels however, were a let down, very gritty, which was a real shame.
As our meal experience went on, we over heard staff saying to another customer the tills had gone down and that's why there were issues going.... Why on earth they didn't tell us that when seated I'll never know, but if they had this review would have been alot more positive regards the service standard and quality. Tell us if there's a delay, we don't care if we're told!! Not being told and having the perception of being ignored damages the experience.
We will be back, as It has lots...
Read moreCalled into this establishment late Thursday this week . There were a few people seated about the premises mainly staff seated drinking at the bar . A young man served me , but after pouring the pint he said we are shutting in five minutes . Thought his attitude was some what short and rude . I moved away from the bar and sat by the door . He then came up to me and placed an empty plastic container in the front of me and said I told you we were shutting in five minutes you can take your drink with you . I decided to leave the premises and the very over priced alcohol. It is illegal to drink alcohol in the street in most places in England. I have used this establishment every time I’m visiting family .I have drank and eaten there on numerous occasions . Food and staff and service, a bit hit and miss . There are far better establishments locally . The Driftwood is very welcoming and the staff are always very pleasant. The food is always consistent and good value for money . I will never enter the Sea Shanty again. Or entertain family there. That’s what you get when your employ young people on minimum wage. An older more experienced member of staff may of handled the situation differently . Such as we are closing shortly yams and no longer serving . I would of left fully understanding . Now I’m writing reviews on the poor level of service and attitude of its staff....
