Decided to take a friend out for a meal and we were both craving a curry. Was the first time either of us had been to this place. On entry everything was very nicely presented with nice decor and lighting. We were greeted by a very friendly employee who quickly showed us to a table and presented us a menu each and took our drink orders....pretty standard so far. Drinks came quick and we made our order, starters (appetizers) came within two minutes, not just poppadoms but nicely cooked and presented onion bhajis too. Our main courses came immediately after our plates were taken from the starters which was very impressive. The food was very nicely presented to us, delicious and of good quality and quantity too, not too much not too little. The menu is pretty small, especially for an Indian and additionally, i believe many of the curries you would usually be able to choose what meat (like chicken or lamb jalfrezi) only had one selection. Prices were as expected in all honesty, certain curries (like the jalfrezi or vindaloo) and appetizers like poppadoms were a bit more expensive than other places but only by a couple of quid (or pence in the case of poppadoms), but sundires (naan, rice) and chef specials were all cheaper than other places, so a nice balance.....and I say the word "cheaper" in the elast offensive way possible as the quality of the meal was great, one of the best curries i've had. Spice wise, the curries are measured on a scale of 0 to 3 by the restaraunt, I tend to prefer curries on the spicier side while my friends prefered slightly milder choices, syaing that we both picked a level two curry which certainly had a bit of spice to it but certainly did not put either of us off. Another point of note is that there is a service charge (10% in our case) added on to the bill, i am not sure if this is mandatory or if it can be requested, however, again we were happy to pay it as the service was justified, waiters showed us to the table, offered help and assistance in a very timely manner and were just all-round polite to everyone. We went on a Friday evening and was very quiet when we were seated (probably 4 others in the restaraunt) but it did get a lot busier...
Read moreWent here for a meal for two on a Saturday evening. We didn't pre-book, so it was nice to find somewhere with a table free.
The menu seemed fairly limited, but was decent enough. Asked for a phaal and was told no, which is fine, not everywhere can do one on short notice. Settled on a Lamb Vindaloo, and a Lamb Pasanda for the better half. Food was brought fairly swiftly, in around 15 mins or so, which is fine considering the date and time of visit.
Problems: the Vindaloo had zero spice (when I say zero, I'm being absolutely genuine). My partner cannot eat spicy food, and she had a mouthful and was amazed there was no heat at all. Oddly,, her Pasanda (which was also served as chicken, rather than the lamb we ordered) was spicy. Was slightly baffling.
When I said to the waiter about the vindaloo having no spice at all - he said "yes, I know, sorry about that." So it must be a regular issue? Who knows.
Anyway, the meat was decent, as was the rest of the food - chips slightly hard maybe, and rice Luke warm, but tasty enough nonetheless.
18 minutes wait for the bill. Which seemed a long time - ended up going to the bar to pay in the end as it seemed like we'd never get it.
All in all it was average at best, and I'm not much of a moaner. The restaurant was around two thirds full, so would be interesting to see what it'd have been like had it been ultra busy.
Not saying don't go there,...
Read moredelicious meal, but it only came with the main meal usually when I've had an Indian meal you get served poppadoms a range of dips, lime chutney, onions etc, however disappointing as this wasn't given, and considering the price it should have been.
Service was a slow, and had to make conversation to pass the time , felt the waiter didn't bother that much, and considering I was eating on my own might have been seen as weird, however the old adage customer is always right, you need quality food and service together that includes being chatty, friendly to customers even if they are eating alone, single people deserve good service and attention as much as big groups or two sitting together.
Did come here before, and the polish Lady at the bar was very polite, and considerate, however table service by waiter (men) very poor, would give this a higher rating if they offered more and gave usual traditional starter with main and if customer service, conversation vastly improved, if I was in charge of this place I would seat the person carefully chat and get to know the customer whilst promptly getting the order, your not just paying for a meal but providing a service , that costs money, it needs to be...
