Tesco Cafe — Restaurant in Wales

I initially reviewed this much higher but with the recent changes to the cafe, I am disappointed at the lack of options. The atmosphere has lost its warmth in place a cold modern touch. However, the inclusion of charging stations is a big upgrade.

The biggest disappointment is ordering being strictly cashless and you can now only order via a kiosk with no choice of customisation. You can no longer order something as simple as a plate of bacon and chips, it is now a requirement to order a specific meal. Which is a huge waste of food as I won’t eat what I don’t want.

This is a serious downgrade across all Tesco’s cafes and I doubt I will be in a hurry to return until they fix it.

Update: No improvement, still cashless and now I can’t even order chicken strips and chips. There is no customisation options for your order - e.g. no peas with my scampi and chips can’t be customised on the order so I have to go to the collection point and relay this. Not ideal considering the staff are now only in the kitchen making food as they no longer serve.

Food quality has gone down, I ordered a seasoned fried that arrived not seasoned properly and were lacking in taste. When I went to complain I was told that was how they did it and there was nothing they could. A blatant lie since I have the seasoned fries before and they never once looked like that (attached an image). The standards and service has dropped pathetically.

Unless they allow more customisation or till service, stay well away from this soulless...

It’s always a shame that the service here is so lacking! After a number of refurbs and a good menu you would think that staff training would be part of it. While 4 out of 5 self service terminals were turned off and the resident waitress (L) running up to people screaming and shouting at every person coming up to order. “It’s an hr wait do you know that!!!” It’s a shame they don’t have someone to meet and greet it would save her voice and legs trying to dissuade people from dinning. It’s a common thread here. At least with the self service terminal they can’t put trolleys in front of the entrance like they used to to stop people entering. The funniest part of it all is that’s it barely at 50% capacity. Food came within 20mins. Says...

I went there today and the Electronic self ordering units were all in use and there were 9 people including myself waiting to access them. No one came up to help as it was obvious that a few people had no idea how to use them. I left and went to a local cafe where I was served within minutes. Tesco cafes were nice places to go before shopping but I shall shop in Aldi from now on but...
