Trattoria restaurant & Aperitivo Bar — Restaurant in Wales

Very disappointing visit. Decided to celebrate my Mother's 60th birthday here on Saturday. My step Father booked the table in person a month ago and revisited the restaurant this week to confirm the table placement for 7 people. My step Father shook the managers hand and considered the surprise to be in their capable hands. When we arrived at the restaurant at 7.30, with the table being booked for 8.00, with a cake and table decorations we were met with the surprise that the table had in fact NOT been logged by them. After a few discussions, with rude and unhospitable staff, a table was made up as a last minute save. I began to decorate the table as at least 4 members of staff looked on. As I finished sprinkling the last of the table confetti a waiter came over and rudely protested that I could not decorate the table in the way I had. They then proceeded to clear the table of the decorations, that I purchased, with no regard or consideration. These were then disposed of at their discretion and never to be seen again. We sat to order drinks and dinner, it was very disorganised, manic and clueless due to the seeming lack of management. The food was poor, a number of the food orders were incorrect. By this point we just wanted to celebrate and not cause a fuss. I have never been made to feel like such a burden or even an inconvenience in a restaurant that was chosen for such a special occasion. This was a 5 minute walk from our Airbnb and the ambiance was great.

We were excited to have proper food after travelling for 6.5 hours that day. I had the Insalata Caprese and Polpette for our starter and it was delightful!

For our mains, I had the carbonara and my partner had the pizza. This was a little disappointing, if I can be honest. It tastes okay but my carbonara was too peppery for my liking and it ended up having a kick which wasn’t what I expect in a carbonara. As for the pizza, as you can see in the photo the sides were BURNT. My partner had a quick look around on the other table’s pizza and they were nowhere the same looking as his. He had to cut off half of the crust of the pizza. One lovely wait staff probably saw how much was cut from his pizza when he’s ate 1/3 of it already and offered to change the pizza but by this time my partner didn’t want to have a whole new pizza to eat again.

We didn’t say anything because it was 30 deg, we’ve come from 6.5 hours and we just wanted to eat.

Then after finishing our mains, another wait staff “accidentally” gave our bill without us asking because coming in we have already decided we’re gonna have ice cream as a treat. The wait staff was very apologetic and we understand and we opted to stay even though we already felt uncomfortable overall.

I was here with a crowd as part of a works night out and was really impressed with everything.

It's a quiant looking place from the front, but is deceivingly large inside. The decor and layout is very smart and well presented, rustic Italian feel, but still polished.

The staff here were all excellent. Everyone who served us was professional, friendly, polite and efficient. They were able to bring approximately 11 starters, mains and desserts to the table at the same time on each course, and when you consider how comprehensive the menu is, this is quite a feat in itself. It demonstrates that it's not just the front of house who are on their game, but clearly the kitchen staff and everyone behind the scenes as well.

The biggest attraction to any restaurant is always the food and that is definitely correct here. We ordered a fair selection from the menu between the crowd and there were a lot of happy faces around the table. Every dish was spot on and portions and quality were excellent.

At a first glance at the prices, it'd be easy to think this will be another overpriced restaurant with tiny portions, but that's really not the case. Each dish was worth every penny and was some of the best examples of the dishes I'd ordered, that I've eaten anywhere.

In summary, an excellent Italian restaurant that gets it spot on and is perfect for a special night...
