The pepper Pot is situated a stones throw from the picturesque village of New Quay. This pub is full of character The bar and grill offers locally sourced home cooked pub classics with an upmarket feel and taste, along with a specials board updated regularly. Although the classics and standard menu is more than enough to keep you coming back for more, the specials board is where you will find what really sets the Pepper Pot apart from the rest. We visited whenever we had the chance and tried everything we could. Firstly, the Sunday dinner, having arrived without a booking, the staff were very accommodating and made room for us between reservations. They were extremely attentive, kind-hearted, and welcoming. The dinner itself was compact and packed a real punch with everything home made and cooked using fresh and local ingredients. The Lamb was plentiful, juicey, and tender served with a handful of tasty roast potatoes, a large wedge of stuffing, seasonal greens, and a lone roast carrot and pig in blanket. What it lacks in size it more than makes up for in quality and taste. The Oysters were freshly caught and prepared. They tasted just like the ocean, perfectly pared with tobassco and lemon to break up the flavors mild flavour of the Oysters. The classic fish and chips. The cod was cooked with care and attention, the batter golden brown, crispy and fragrant, with the fish soft flakey and mild tasting. The double cooked chips were crunchy on the outside and fluffy on the inside some of the best fish and chips I've had. Second time here for me and many changes but the food remains the same - high quality and tasty. Still dog friendly. Still need to book - there was a three day wait for us to get in, okay if you’re there for a week, not if you just pole up - as many people did - seeing empty table must have been frustrating but they were going to be occupied within half an hour. The kitchen had also, very sensibly worked out how many covers they could do in a time frame - and hadn’t over committed. So refreshing to hear this, as there’s often a ‘cram ‘em in, get their money attitude’ - not here. Venue wise, the outdoor area has been modified both because of COVID but also to provide a more comfortable eating experience in cooler / inclement weather. Heavy duty clear plastic now surrounds the open ‘window’ area and there is a retractable roof. The addition of heaters (IMHO not necessary just yet - September) may be very welcome in colder times ahead. Great views of the harbour and people watching up and down the street. Food, we had two from the specials board and one from the main. Average price £13.

I have been going to NQ my whole life and as I get older and have kids the nights out are few and far between. There are only two restaurants we booked during a recent 10 day summer stint to Ceredigion. Pepper Pot was by far the best meal we have had since eating out got so expensive. Every bite was worth every penny of the very reasonably priced menu. Healthy portions, wonderful quality fish, fresh and delicious. Always is. Consistently good food. And….the staff are local, seasoned, professional operators who understand the perfect recipe for a ‘suits all’ special meal, whilst also being able to appeal to visitors and locals alike. A really welcoming community feel with top notch food. Oh, and their live music Sundays are just wonderful. The kind of sing-along joy you just don’t get much these days. Brilliant. Especially as our rental house is directly opposite 😉 We had cocktail, starters, mains, wine each.

Absolutely horrendous experience. Decided to celebrate here as locals for our 10 year anniversary. Having neurodivergent children it’s rare we get out alone, pulled so many strings to make it happen, but since it was such a special occasion we organised a couple hours out. Totally ruined by this place and the poor service. We both felt disappointed, like we regret choosing this place for our special day, just wanted to get out of there and go, and would had preferred a takeaway even as it was that shocking…our special occasion was ruined.

First we arrived and told practically nothing was available. Served by the most rude, inexperienced waitress we’ve ever come across in our lives. She did not write any of our order down, our starters didn’t arrive, we were just given our mains, no apology, no mention of it, just no starters. The mains were also all wrong. After ordering my partner had to change his order as his order had now become unavailable…when they did arrive, sides were missing also, doubled up on another side we did not order, the steak was the worst I’ve eaten in my life, what a way to ruin what was supposed to be a butchers steak and the hard work of the farmer who raised the animal. Wasn’t cooked as requested, was cremated and tasteless

Surrounded by utter dysfunction also. There were tables where people were eating 30 minutes prior to others on the table receiving their meals. There were tables that ordered desserts and when arrived things were unavailable therefore they had just replaced and given it to them without choice, no asking nor any consideration for allergens, just there wasn’t any left so you’ve got this instead. Outright rude. If she were working for me she’d be sacked on the spot. Absolute continuous embarrassment to represent a place wanting business! She was also so rude, when asked if I could go without sauce and order two sides, she rudely said “no you can’t”. I asked again in a different way and again “no you can’t”, not “we can’t swap the sauce for another side, but you can supplement the excess/ order another side for the price displayed”… I had to ask if I could pay for another side before she allowed me to order it which is what I was asking, although that was her place to say, not mine. She was outright rude, inexperienced in hospitality and just a walking car crash. Everything she brought out was incorrect after repeating our order before she left when we ordered. How difficult is it to write orders down?! It was all just absolutely shocking and the worst meal out and service we’ve ever experienced in our lives. A milestone celebration ruined because we put our faith in this place and we were totally disappointed and could not wait to leave. We went over to the Jitterbug to try and brighten our evening a little instead of heading home totally miserable, lovely place over there, should have eaten there. Never will we visit the Pepper Pot again, and never will we recommend it....

What a lovely place! We had no plans to visit the pepper pot but we were walking past one evening and we were both drawn in by the buzz of happy customers and the look of the place. Their terrace is raised above road level and gives a nice view over the bay.The waitress was super friendly and explained they couldn't fit us in for food that evening but could find us space for a drink so we had a couple and booked our selves in for breakfast the following day. We arrived for breakfast and the terrace was in the sun which was a bonus we looked over the menu and decided we both fancied something veggie so we both opted for the the full veggie breakfast. Now we have had loads of veggie breakfasts in the past and as I explained to the waitress it's breakfast how hard can it be to cook a good breakfast but it is possible with skill to make one that is beyond any others and we know that now after this breakfast. The food was well presented and every mouth full was a surprise of flavour and ticked every box for both of us. Thanks very much for your hospitality it was a great breakfast that polished off our visit to New quay beautifully and set us up for...
