Welcoming a delegation of 17 German guests, the venue was tasked with accommodating, feeding, and hosting an important cultural gathering that blended international friendship with local Welsh hospitality. As both a diner and the event organiser, I’m delighted to share our experience of this memorable occasion.

Accommodation: Comfort and Character Seven of our overseas guests stayed in the well-appointed rooms above the steakhouse. Feedback was glowing—each guest commented on the comfort of the beds, the tasteful décor, and the thoughtful touches that made them feel instantly at home. The rooms offered a peaceful retreat after busy days of exploring Usk and engaging in partnership activities. Details such as crisp linens, spotless bathrooms, and ample amenities added to a genuine sense of relaxation.

Breakfast Experience: A Delicious Start to the Day Each morning, our guests were treated to an impressive spread featuring a mix of classic cooked options and lighter continental selections. The ingredients were evidently sourced with care, with local produce taking centre stage. The full Welsh breakfast, complete with succulent sausages, eggs cooked to perfection, received particular praise.

Formal Dinner: Welsh Flavours, Impeccable Presentation The highlight of our event was the formal dinner for 35, featuring a specially created Welsh themed menu. From the first bite, it was clear we were in for a treat. Dishes such as cawl (traditional Welsh soup), duo of Welsh lamb and the most delicious chocolate torte along with several other choices, celebrated local culinary traditions with a sophisticated twist. Presentation was top-notch, and the kitchen expertly managed the logistics of serving a large group while maintaining consistency and flavour. Our German guests were thoroughly impressed by the quality and creativity on display, with many noting it as the standout meal of their visit.

Went to celebrate friends birthday. Lovely building, looks wonderful inside. The lady that showed us our seats was very nice, friendly & helpful..we ordered paprika houmus, rocket parmesan starter to share. Was fantastic, wonderful variety of tastes, extremely well presented. The waiter Peter that served us was a perfect host, knowledge, friendly, good sense of humour. I like spicy food so he did me some tenderstem broccoli in a special chili oil sauce, was unbelievable good, very spicy with a stunningly good flavour. My main was chicken thyme with herby veg & potatoes. Was perfect, amazing variety of flavours, on warm plate. Beautifuly cooked. Truly amazing flavours. Had a Ferrero Rocher cheesecake pudding, was a taste sensation, so Nice, perfect way to end an amazing meal. my friends meals were equally as good, truly amazing food, wonderful service, best wishes to Peter & the 2 female Waitresses. What a fantastic gem in the heart of Usk. We stumbled across this place whilst visiting Usk and were immediately surprised and impressed. From the outside, it looked like a standard old pub but a soon as we walked in, we were greeted with friendly smiles, a lovely atmosphere and a glimpse of the beautiful food and drink on offer. Our waiters were superb, very knowledgeable and extremely welcoming. We had cocktails (I had a mocktail) which were all not only good to look at but tasted amazing and then we tried the Welsh sparking wine, which was also great! Eventually we decided to stay for dinner (we did have plans elsewhere but realised we would be silly not to try the food here) - and it didn’t disappoint. The menu was small but there was something on there for everyone. I had asparagus 4 ways with a confit egg yolk to start and then had the lamb rump with leek, and a mint and pea purée for mains. It was perfect! In summary, this place has a lot to give - firstly the service but also the food. I will definitely be making the short trip over the bridge to come back to Usk just to visit this...
