Really bad show here. I live in Walsall but always go Birmingham to eat out as there's no where decent in walsall to go. Thought we'd try out Lal Haveli using the government's 50% discount scheme. Started of well, restaurant accommodated us even though we didn't have a reservation. Started going downhill after this. We spent 15 minutes deciding on what to order and when the waiter arrived he told us they're only serving two items. Why not mention this when your customers walk in? So we ordered a platter and a jug of lassi. 5 minutes later we get a bowl of lettuce and some empty cups. So were looking around and everyone's tables are empty. Half an hour later and same thing. Another half hour and everyone's tables are still empty. So i ask the guy stood behind the bar, how long will our food be. He just shrugs his shoulders and says i don't know. No attempt to find out. It's not like i was constantly on his back either. Very rude behaviour.
1.5 hours after we got there and we Walked out. We weren't even served our drinks. Now i get that they're busy especially with this government offer, but they knew about this. They kept letting people in the restaurant knowing full well they wouldn't be able to serve them. Just pure greed. The owner is too stingy to hire some extra hands. It cost nothing to communicate with your customers that there is a delay. If they did that I'm sure people would understand.
First time and last time we will be visiting this establishment. When we walked in, i commented to my wife how tasteful the decor was and that this would make a nice venue for our 4 year olds birthday. Such a shame that the penny pinching and rude attitude of the manager and barman let this place down. The waiters were...
Read moreOnly serving 2 menu items out of the whole menu, I get that its covid19 time has everyone limited but to have only 2 items available? Ordered the grilled platter & food looked like it barely touched the grill, even the onion slices were mostly raw instead of grilled and caramelised. Though food was cooked (but for a grill plater needs more time on the grill) it wasn't flavourful. Very plain and not spicy. Chips are awful, chunky chips but no filling inside and just a crunchy shell. They charge for water and have no free tap water available which I'm pretty sure is illegal? The curry we got on our grilled platter was covered with so much salt and was chicken keema, for the price I'd expect lamb keema at least. Platter included peri chicken but peri chicken needs to be flame grilled and you couldn't even make out grill marks on the skin. Waited far to long to get the food. It wasn't busy when we dined in so why did it take so long? Yes there's an award winning chef but its not like the kitchen only has 1 chef? Also ordered water, got water and a bottle of coke too, we didn't ask for it but got charged for it when the bill came which is unfair, they could have just taken it back as we only wanted tap water (not even bottled water!) Food here is not worth it. Decor is pretty nice, comfortable seating, clean plates and whichever waiter served us did so in a very meticulous manner, very polite, however after waiting so long to get the food which turned out disappointing and then waiting even longer for a bill I can say I won't be eager to be coming back. Menu is far too expensive for what the food...
Read moreI had heard about these "tawa" places for a while. The food comes out on a massive platter that includes starters and mains all in one place. I had to visit one. After looking at the reviews of this place I thought I'd give it a try. I tried calling and booking a table but it was always engaged when I called. We went anyway but I was mindful that we may get turned away due to the place possibly being really busy. As we went on a Monday I was hopeful they weren't. They were not busy and we were given a table straight away. The waiter was nice and the place was clean. We ordered a "desi tawa" along with drinks. I asked for a salad with extra green chillies. They were polite people and they obliged. When the salad arrived I asked if there were any poppadoms but I was told they did not serve or sell these and that is fair enough. The "tawa" arrived and the food was hot. There was a variety of foods to choose from and it was exactly as they said the food would be. I would have given the extra star if the plates were hot as I really have not a lot bad to say about this place. Everyone in our party enjoyed the food. I would have asked for a bit more spice in my food but that is more personal preference than blaming anyone. There are a number of "tawa" dishes and all I could possibly ask for is more of these. All we asked for was provided and I would definitely revisit this place. Overall really good but I reserve five stars for a wow factor. No offense to this establishment as I think it meets to mark for four and...
