Have had a lovely time at The New Art Gallery. Never been before and I am definitely not regreting the time we have spent there. We have seen plenty of beautiful art pieces, however ...in my very personal opinion, and I really don't want to offend anyone, the exhibition which was today on the very top floor....🤦♀️ Sorry, but this I would never call "an art".
Really random pieces of anything you will find in garbage bin, putting together, with no shape, no emotion, no story to be told... even hard to describe, as these "art" pieces didn't make any sense at all. The easiest to describe is... possibly a toy revolver, sprayed all-round in pink... (I am regreting now I didn't want to take any pictures of this exhibition 🤷♀️, just to show you )
People do go to galleries and museums to see art pieces which has been made centuries and millenniums ago and yet we still looking at them speachless and fascinated by the absolute beauty , precious make etc, but what are we going to leave for next generations in hundreds/ thousands years ahead ??? Pink sprayed toy revolver? Or many other shapeless, senseless "new art" pieces, impossible to describe or guess the idea behind it , or the...
Read moreI recently visited the "new" art gallery in Walsall, and I must say, calling it new feels quite misleading since it actually opened in 2000. Despite being around for over two decades, the gallery doesn't seem to have evolved much to appeal to local residents like myself.
While the building itself is architecturally interesting and houses some notable works, it doesn't offer much that resonates with the local community. The exhibitions often feel disconnected from the local culture and history, and there's a noticeable absence of art that reflects Walsall's unique identity.
The gallery seems more focused on attracting visitors from outside the area rather than engaging with the people who live here. I had hoped for a more inclusive space that celebrates local talent and stories, but instead, it feels somewhat out of touch with the community it serves.
Overall, while the gallery has potential, it falls short in creating a meaningful and engaging experience for locals. I hope to see more efforts in the future to incorporate local artists and themes that truly reflect the...
Read moreLove the building. The staff are very friendly and the, Costa, coffee shop is brilliant. It's sad to see so much litter outside by the unnecessarily limited disable parking bays. Inside, the building feels somewhat unloved with dirty edges to the stairs and corridors and no signs to let you know where to find the toilets. Exhibit wise (and this is the main mission of the place) the Epstein stuff and other artists was well worth viewing. The thing with office stamps on paper was utterly missable. However I was impressed by how so many A4 sheets were placed on the walls in perfectly straight horizontal and vertical lines on all four walls of the huge room. There did seem to be a fair number of rooms that were empty/closed. And sadly and inexplicably so was the access onto the outside roof area. My impression is that this gallery would benefit from the person in charge giving some attention to the the little things and pushing for...
