I've had to drop my previous rating of Smithy's simply because the service was so bad. We were encouraged to use the app to order from the table so 3 orders were all confirmed at same time and then staff made aware of the 3 orders from one table, we were told no problem and that all food would come out together. What a joke...from the first meal arriving at the table through to the last meal, which was on the same order as the first meal to arrive, there was nearly 30 minutes between them So much for going out as a family group since we all ate at staggered times. The food was generally good apart from steak being cooked wrong on 2 of the meals but after waiting so long we put up with it. Once meals were finally finished we waited that long for the table to be cleared that we ended up doing it ourselves so that the table was clear for the desserts we had ordered. Quite clear from watching what was going on that the business is clearly understaffed for such a busy time on a Sunday but the young lady who served our meals did her best and she could only bring us the food as it was cooked by the kitchen staff. On leaving I raised my concerns with Tina the manager and she tried passing the problems off that it was because we had ordered via the app and she has no control over that and that it was down to the kitchen staff.... sorry Tina but you are the manager of a customer based business and you should be checking what's going on in your establishment so that customers get the best possible experience. Between us we spent over £160 in the time we were there... perhaps next time we go out as a family group the Hungry Horse will be benefiting...

We order at the bar, and let the staff know about my aunts gluten allergy. Then waited around 45 minutes, which wasn't an issue as it had got busy and we're happy to wait for freshly cooked, good food.
A staff member came to our table and sprayed it with cleaner, telling us they had to do this due to the allergies. We weren't asked to. Move our cutlery or drinks, so the spray went all over them. They then sprayed another cleaner onto the table, and we asked for new cutlery. Very odd, my aunt doesn't eat off the table?? We eat out a lot, and we know the laws around allergies have tightened but we have never experienced this.
My aunt ordered garlic prawns, and plain prawns were brought out. Staff were quick to rectify, but had presumed that garlic butter had gluten in, so took it upon themselves not to include.
My grandad had a lasagne and side salad. The salad was warm and wilted, obviously having been sat under the heat light for too long - the cucumber had lost a lot of moisture.
My partner had Jumbo Scampi and chips, but there was nothing about that portion that was Jumbo.
My gammon was fine, the eggs were rubbery and overcooked, pineapple had dried out (victim of the heat lamp)
For the cost of the meal I don't have high expectations, but the quality of the food was not good at all. We had eaten here previously and found a dead spider in a teapot, and the food was reheated, but had heard that it had improved... We won't be coming back unless its for...

We were asked to order through the app. So we downloaded the app. We couldn't figure out how to order off the app. Asked a member of staff who told us they didn't no and they always just order at the bar. So we ended up ordering with the server. We tried using our welcome drink voucher in conjunction to the offer of 50 percent off food. Told we could by the server. Who then came back and told us we couldn't because its two different vouchers. So we then ordered two burgers and chips which came with a drink or the option to upgrade to a alcoholic drink. Again checked with server if this was valid. And the server then returned saying we couldn't have alcoholic drinks but could have soft drinks. Again we changed the order. And our food arrived. It was average if not a little below. Not worth the price or hassle of the visit so far. We waited for our soft drinks they never arrived. So when ordering our desserts we asked about them again. And she said she would bring them right over. To which the manager came over and again preceeded to tell us we wernt getting them regardless of how many times the server had told us we were. We then ordered desserts. I ordered a white chocolate sundae. Which consisted of 6 white chocolate buttons. No honeycomb and vanilla chocolate and toffee sauce. Not worth the price tag.
