Sad to say this hotel did not live up to expectations nor its own website. Having given the proprietors feedback (twice including reception) & received no offer of redemption or compensation for a stay that was extremely stressful & uncomfortable then it's time to leave a less than favourable review.
Firstly, unless you love to sleep in stifling sticky hot rooms then avoid in warmer weather - they have no air con or other means of cooling the rooms (a fan isn't enough). The curtains did not even fit the window correctly so the light and heat came through anyway. Yes it's an old building and they can't have air con fitted but there are other options. The warmer weather was forecast so they had time to prep (and it is after all mid July!) - I certainly don't envy those staying early next week when the temps are to be an additional 10 deg on top!
'Secure parking' it states on the website - no it isn't. Their idea of secure is they'll block your vehicle in so it can't be stolen while in their car park.... it won't prevent your vehicle being broken into (we selected this hotel deliberately because it stated secure parking so very let down on this point)
The bathroom light decided to not be so smart and stay on whatever you did with the door (open/closed whatever!) and at desperation point having asked a staff member why it wouldn't go off they didn't know either!
Unfortunately Reception have no power to resolve complaints but apologise and be charming however this stay left a guest super tired, extremely stressed & overall very frazzled purely because of the poor facilities & 'stretched truth' to which they do not want to compensate for.
In summary, yes a quaint property but not for the security conscious or hot weather visitor who like to sleep comfortably. Avoid until we're into Sept again is the...
Read moreUsed to be a wonderful place but unfortunately lost it's shine. Stayed a few weeks ago, celebrating a belated wedding anniversary. Was put in a 1970's house to the rear of the hotel, which the staff referred to as the Annex, Room 7 Suite was nice but ideally wanted to be in the actual hotel. Also could have done with a dust and a replacement dressing table lamp as it was broken. Loud music from guests rooms above, which continued into the early hours. My Husband had enough by 3am and called reception. Music was turned off but loud chattering and foot steps continued. Way more than two guests in that room and definitely a party! Complained at check out but the chap on reception was not very interested. Complained by email and received a half hearted apology and a £50 refund. Was told the rooms above were block booked by guests celebrating a birthday and they hadn't been out in six months and must have took it to far and continued their celebrations in one of the rooms! Not really my problem, especially when paying £139 a night for what was supposed to be a romantic break and was also our first time out in a year! Real lack of interest from staff, email communication terrible. Need to think / plan better with regards to the locations of guests rooms, especially when block bookings / parties...
Read moreso the hotel is nice for a hotel that is 100s of years old and been nicely furnished. but it had too many little things for me to ever go back. first the TV was not working we were offered to move but were too tired to move after being settled. the parking at hotel is a joke where you have to leave your keys at reception so they can move them around as guest come and go. i let no one drive my car. then breakfast at 8.30am we could not find anyone to get Tea as there was only a coffee machine it was very limited choice also the room you had your breakfast in was freezing like the bedroom we came back at 11pm heating off and -2 outside then at 2.30pm woke up in a sweat as heating had come on full blast. also being over the bar we could not get off to sleep as we could hear giggling drunken ladies below until midnight then they stood outside for ages will not be using again. i gave it 3 stars as the rooms are nicely finished and...
