So disappointing!

Don’t expect to feel really special here.

And the food is really not worth it. We eat at a lot of places in London and Devon so we know good food and good flavours and this is not it.

But Daniele’s probably don’t care about this because they’re just really busy trying to squeeze in as many people through the door as they can. And if you need the loo - too bad! There’s only 1 in the whole place. So you better not be desperate!

I took my parents for my Mum’s birthday. They were hugely excited. My dad is 80 and my mum is 76.

Our table wasn’t ready and instead of having a nice place to wait and being offered a drink there was NOWHERE to stand without being in the way. It’s a small place and we were directed to move all the time - for 20 minutes hanging around with our winter coats on. A very grumpy waitress who told us to move said ‘that she did not make the reservations. No apology offered when we did finally get our table. No ‘let’s get you some drinks now’. Apparently they were really busy because someone had fainted. We didn’t see any evidence of that, which was strange because we had been watching all the proceedings whilst standing up for 20 minutes.

A really bad start.

The wine was not in stock.

We had to chase up our drinks. My husbands IPA was ice cold and he had to put it on a radiator to warm up!

The starters were lovely.

My mum’s salmon pasta was really quite horrible, mushy and overwhelming in volume. This was removed from the bill.

My cod wrapped in panchetta was underwhelming in flavour and dry. I asked for more sauce which I had to chase up. The men were really happy with steaks. But as my Dad says ‘that’s what I always order - it’s difficult for them to get that wrong!’. A wise man.

The sorbet and ice cream were good.

Don’t waste your hard earned money here. There are far better places locally where proper thought and care has been put into the whole...

We’ve been loyal customers of Daniele Sicilian Restaurant for many years and have always enjoyed the quality of food and service. However, we share our disappointment with a recent takeaway experience on Thursday, 26 June, in the hope that it can help prevent similar issues in the future.

Unfortunately, the takeaway bag broke apart before being handed to us, causing the food to fall onto the floor. We appreciated that staff promptly offered to remake the food, and we were happy to wait, understanding that accidents can happen.

However, when we arrived home, we found that several of the replacement dishes were not up to Daniele usual standard (more reheated than replaced).

The Frittura Mista appeared to have been re-fried, resulting in an overly greasy and burnt dish. The Spaghetti Carbonara had congealed into a solid, dry lump, more like a poorly made frittata.

On a more positive note, the mozzarella garlic bread was fresh (though it had been forgotten in the first round), and the Spaghetti Isola Bella was also fresh and enjoyable.

Regrettably, the Fiorentina seemed to be from the initial batch (prior to the accident), as it was soggy and no longer appetising.

We understand that things can occasionally go wrong, and we sincerely hope this was just an off day. That said, spending £75 on food that mostly ended up being thrown away was disappointing and not reflective of the experience we’ve come to associate with Daniele.

Sad by this review- following my previous review this was one of me and my partner’s favourite restaurants to come to for a date night - service was ok, had to ask for menus when we were sat and left. The service was fine just could have been more attentive. Starters were lovely ( mussels and squid special). However the mains were very disappointing. The carbonara was tasty but was a bit loose and wet so not as rich and sticky as it normally is and I ordered my favourite dish ( stuffed chicken) which I was surprised when it arrived and look completely different- flat breaded bit of chicken with a bit of cooked mozzarella and a very mean amount of sauce. Sadly no one came to check on our meals while eating. I asked the waitress when she came to clear the table about my meal - she went ok to tell me that em they had to change the dish cause people complained how long it took as a large chicken breast took 30’mins + - I was so saddened by this and angry at some people complaining about good quality fresh food taking longer !
