On arriving this afternoon at The Shepherd and flock pub for a birthday lunch , the three of us we were greeted by a friendly young barman , who poured our drinks , and brought over some menus for our perusal , we ordered A BLT sandwich , Ciabatta and a hot Jacket with prawns , it wasn’t busy with only three other small tables of people with food already in front of them! Unfortunately after a 45 minute wait and asking where our food was ??!! Two out of the three lunches finally arrived , ! leaving no explanation for the wait ! and another 9 minutes before the third lunch was delivered! Which was COLD !! I took it straight to the bar , he actually did apologise and say we are short staffed and offered to replace it ! To be honest I was so frustrated having to wait nearly one hour for a cold jacket potato , while my daughter and partner had finished their meal already , I said don’t bother and left hungry ! If you are short staffed out of respect to a paying customer and obviously there time! Shouldn’t you be informed before they place an order that there may be a considerable wait time ! Then the customer has a choice to find somewhere more suitable!! The jacket lunch was removed...
Read moreWent as a party to celebrate a family birthday but were stuck in a corner to frankly cook. No AC to make it pleasant to sit. The food came out in drips and drabs considering we were a table of 12. The food was bland and really brown! It would appear it was either served out of a fryer or out a microwave bag! My son ordered the mussels and we had to send it back as all the shells were broken into the fish. Didn’t even get offered his meal complementary. When asked if we could replace it with hunters chicken we were told that the chef had turned the fryers off, we had just been served our food! One meal was completely forgotten and so we were all having to finally eat with one of our party having to wait and watch! At the end of the meal we weren’t even offered deserts but then the chef was then in the bar enjoying a pint! The waiter on the other hand was lovely and really helpful very apologetic but he shouldn’t have to be for a chef who clearly seemed to not be bothered. Real shame as the pub itself is pretty cute and in a unique place.
Didn’t take photos as nothing look very nice at all. Either burnt, discoloured covered in bland sauce or brown!
Won’t be going back nor would...
Read moreHubby and l visited here last week. My husband said that it was reputedly the only roundabout in Europe big enough for a small village and a Pub. The Landlords and Locals were very friendly, it's dog friendly too. We had a lovely hot meal. Husband had the Shepherds Pie, and l had a Prawn Cocktail of King Prawns, followed by the Sausage and mash, and a dish of battered onions with garlic bread. A large dish of fresh vegetable of the day was served with the two meals. The Prawns were lovely, one of my favourite starters to be honest, and have them whenever they are on the menu. My husband enjoyed his Shepherds Pie, and my Sausage and mash with lovely thick gravy and fresh vegetables was lovely and tasty. There was plenty on our plates, reasonably priced and well worth it too. There was no room for dessert, although the menu for that looked inviting. We had passed this Pub on the lsland for many years. Staying just up the road for a long weekend gave us the chance to finally go and visit it. It was well worth it too. Thankyou Shepherd and Flock, We had a lovely relaxing evening there, then made our short walk back...
