Went in earlier in the week with the Mrs and enjoyed a pint, thought of trying it again but for food this time. After reading reviews the majority said it was decent, and for the most part it was. The people are fine and attentive, the drinks are ok, the atmosphere was ok, the food though really wasn't that great. Not terrible, but not outstanding.
A really diverse menu with no real focus on any kind of cuisine. Steak was seasoned well but quite fatty, no option for any kind of additional sauce besides a ramekin of chimichurri which I wouldn't personally go for, I tried it with the steak and it was ok but nothing to write home about, can see why people enjoy it though, personally would have preferred a stilton and port or peppercorn sauce but that's just me being stuck in the early 00's I guess. My Mrs had the burger which on paper sounded lovely but really did lack any kind of flavour, quite bland despite containing bone marrow, flank and short rib.
Overall, the place itself could be decent, it has all the hallmarks, the menu just needs some tweaking. It's by no means terrible food, but £50 for two mains and two cokes is quite steep for what it is. Probably wouldn't go...
Read moreI really enjoyed lunch here!
I popped in for lunch on a Saturday lunch time, just when the lions were on the tv. Immediately there was a great atmosphere! We didn't book in advance and were shown straight to a table, just far enough away that the rugby didn't cause us any issues with noise but also kept the atmosphere rather fun with the odd cheer!
But it was the lunch we had that made this trip! I went for the pie of the day, a shepherd's pie.. yes in July! My partner had the chicken club sandwich.
There was no drama about my 9 month old having what we brought along for her either.
The food turned up not too long after we had ordered even though there were quite a few other tables.
The chicken club sandwich was a proper club sandwich, fresh ingredients and stacked high! My partner was very please, her side of fries was almost too much to add.
My shepherd's pie was probably one of the best I've ever had and I've had my fair share! I had to ask what the carrots were cooked in as they made me really smile as I bit into them.. the veg in general I could have eaten rather happily alone, I really enjoyed myself.
We will be going back again very soon! Definitely...
Read moreI have to say, this is not just pub grub, this is the finest and tastiest you'll find for miles.
My partner and I went on a 2hour walk and no surprise, extremely ravenous afterwards.
We booked this last minute as we needed somewhere close to where we were staying. The best find yet!
I'm not one for fried food usually but honestly i couldn't get enough.
We started with the scotch egg and pork bites. They come out looking very simple but I tell you, simplicity at its best! The apple sauce which came with the pork bites was just delicious! Very home made and the scotch egg? I'm Scottish and I certainly approve.
Moving on, my partner ordered the fish and chips, very attractive fish and chips, with the batter so perfect around the fish. Light and crispy accompanied with the most amazing gherkin dip, peas and mayo!
I went got the pork schnitzel which I realised after I'd just had pork and more pork for starters but honestly, the chef managed to make all dishes so unique. Really really highly recommend this place for food and drinks.
Also a big thank you to the waiting staff for being so attentive...
