The Greedy Elephant — Restaurant in Waverley

We had the pleasure of going to the Greedy Elephant for lunch today.

Me, my wife and our baby daughter went. Where do i begin? So the actual restaurant has lovely modern decor. A very packed menu, which is clearly laid out and easy to understand what you get for each dish and cocktail or drink. There are two sides to the restaurant, the front part and the back which has alot more seating. We were in the front, which was very pram friendly and they made us feel like nothing was too much trouble.

We had the Satay Chicken and Vegetable Spring Rolls which were very clean tasting, so they clearly don't re-use oil and make things fresh which is great.

I had a virgin Pina colada which was really smooth and not too sweet, tasted traditional and even came with a miniature umbrella which was a nice touch.

We had Beef Massaman with Egg Fried Rice and Duck Confit with Egg Fried Rice.

This is one of the best Massaman curries i've had in a long time, it was delightful and very filling. The Duck Confit was very tender and the skin was crispy,, it wasn't overcooked and it certainly wasn't dry.

We were too full for dessert. The server was charming and even at one point helped feed our baby with formula! Nothing was too much trouble and he was attentive and refilled water and bringing fresh cutlery.

We were looking for a good Thai restaurant after having had some not so good experiences recently. The Greedy Elephant, for surpassed any expectations we had!

The restaurant is friendly and welcoming, it has a really cosy atmosphere and although it was busy when we visited, our table felt private and quiet. The staff are really welcoming and made us feel well looked after.

When the food came, we were really impressed, it’s was presented beautifully and tasted amazing. The portion sizes were generous, without being over the top, meaning we could happily enjoy three courses.

Everything was very reasonably priced too and all in all, we had a wonderful evening. This has definitely made it onto our favourites list and we will be back soon to try more items on the menu.

Disappointing really. Booked for wedding anniversary & mentioned on booking but nothing even said. Only given one menu which was filthy with food. Asked for a clean one and was given another dirty menu. It’s paper, you can’t print clean ones each day? We were sitting in the garden room by the wall which was also dirty with what looked like splashes of food and drink up it. The food was supposed to be medium spicy but some dishes blew out heads off, especially the stir fry duck which was also very fatty. The sea bass came out sizzling which was nice but gave off a really acrid smell making us and all the people around us cough.
