Worst couple of nights sleep ever, do not stay here if you value the ability to sleep! The most fundamental thing when providing accommodation is a reasonable bed. The mattress at the Chagford Inn was the worst I’ve experienced, words cannot express how terribly uncomfortable both my parter and I found the mattress. The picture doesn’t fully illustrate just how sunken the mattress is. If that was not enough, the kitchen staff arrive in the early morning and congregate outside the window and has loud conversations. Please pay a little extra and stay somewhere else, we stayed for two nights and both of us need a break to recover from the worst accommodation ever.

Stopped for lunch while on the road. An unexpectedly delicious lunch! The menu has some Italian influences which are perfectly executed. All the ingredients are local and the plates were carefully thought out, tasty and filling. The meat was tender and melted in your mouth. Our highlights included the hake, braised beef, venison ragù and chocolate delice (pictures below). The service was also warm and welcoming. Not a single complaint- I highly recommend!

This is a review for the pub in the inn. We dropped by once for drinks and sticky toffee pudding—amazing. Tonight we went back for dinner. Dinner and dessert were also amazing and the staff was wonderful. We walked in and got a table but many tables were booked in advance so that may be a good idea.

We have visited Chagford many times, but this was our first stay at the Chagford Inn. It won't be our last!

We opted for one of the smaller double rooms. It was very clean and well appointed with fresh coffee etc. The bathroom was a little on the small side, but not enough to be inconvenient. The room was excellent value for money.

3 draft ales on hand pumps, all very well kept and served at the perfect temperature. A good selection of Scotch, but we didn't sample it.

But the star of the show was the food. The Chagford Inn specialises in beef, and they do so with conviction! When a beautiful looking cote de boeuf arrived at another table, we quickly ordered one. Beautiful Dexter beef cooked to perfection. The second night we had fillet, with fantastically flavoured shin. Beef heart was new to both of us, but we were pleasantly surprised at how tender and flavourful it was. Breakfast was also great. High quality ingredients make such a difference, and they were in abundance.

John was an excellent host, and I can't praise his staff highly enough. It really was the perfect visit, and I'm already looking forward to the next.

UPDATE - We visited again with some friends a couple of months ago. Everything was as we'd experienced before and we had...

The four of us had a lunch to die for yesterday and we have eaten at some great plcaes , home and abroad, going for the qualitu of the food and not the bling! Well the atmosphere was great, the gentleman and lady in charge and serving were just lovely - explaining all about the Baxter beef - do try it - wow - melts in your mouth the way they do it - and the puddings!!!! Just excellent. I gather the mulled wine was perfect - I was driving and never drink alcohol - from the three ladies with me - yup I get spoiled in my family! - and the wine list good. I would give it 6 stars if I could. Beats many more expensive places I have been to. Keep up the Good Work and thank you all!! Have a great New Year in one of our favourite places on Dartmoor - God's Kingdom! - we shall be back, please. Michael Brightman - author The Mystery Factor ebook - Ruth Lickfold - The Boss! - Emma D'Arcey, and Hannah Kokoschka - artist on website etc. GO NOW - if we lived locally we would -...

Best pub food I've had in a long time!

Lovely relaxing atmosphere and delicious food. What more could you want.

I came her with my siblings after a recommendation from my sister who had a been a few weeks prior and highly rated it. We had a three course meal which did not disappoint! Started with the beetroot and goats cheese which tasted fresh and delicious. Then the beef shin pie which looked on the smaller side but it was packed with flavour and actually more than enough. The chocolate delice pudding was to die for! Full of flavour and chocolate yum! The sugary pecans were a bonus. The presentation of the food was that out of masterchef which made the food even more delectable.

If you're a foody I'd highly recommend eating here. The price is slightly higher but they use local ingredients which is cooked to the highest standard, so happy to pay a bit more for quality produce.

I'll live locally so will definitely be back soon. Thanks for a...
