My partner and I arrived at the Globe on a Saturday night, having googled where to stay in the area we were in. We received a very laid back relaxed and friendly greeting from the owner. The restaurant and pub had a lovely log fire going in a huge inglenook fireplace giving off a delicious fragrance. We felt immediately at home there. We were shown to our room and got a really lovely surprise .....the room was large and warm with quirky but stylish decor on the walls. We had a choice of a warm blanket with sheets or duvet. We had a twin room and the beds were 3' wide with really decent mattresses. The en suite was lovely too. Perfectly clean in every way. Loads of coffee and tea and plenty of milk was supplied in our room as well as biscuits. We went down to dinner later on and ordered steak and sautéed vegetables and the best steak and ale pie I have ever eaten. The young waitress who served us was sweet, polite, friendly and so helpful. Nothing was too much trouble. Breakfast is fantastic! Whole range of cereals and fruit as well as cooked breakfast, which was superb. There was plenty of toast, jam, marmalade and fruit juices. No skimping on anything! We highly recommend The Globe....please stay there! It is amazing. It also has a sweet garden with shelter if you are a smoker and the garden is full of quirky pots and containers with flowers and shrubs in, as is the whole property decorated with style and taste. You must go there to eat and stay....you'll have a relaxed and...
Read moreWe’ve stayed at The Globe many times over the years and it remains, without question, our favourite place to stay on Dartmoor. Everything about it just delivers — from the rooms to the food to the price, it’s consistently excellent and welcoming in a way that few places manage to maintain.
The rooms at the front of the building, facing the church, are especially lovely. Peaceful, full of character, and beautifully lit in the morning. The food is reliably outstanding. We’ve worked our way through most of the menu over various trips and have never had a bad meal. Sunday roasts in particular are a real highlight — proper portions, cooked with care, and always delicious.
But it’s the people who really set The Globe apart. Mary, the owner, is warm, accommodating, and genuinely lovely — nothing is too much trouble, and she makes you feel like you’re part of the place. Nick behind the bar is a character in the best possible sense. Full of local stories (and the occasional not-so-local tale), he brings the bar to life and always makes sure everyone’s enjoying themselves. His humour and warmth are part of what keeps us coming back.
It’s a place with soul, comfort, and a true sense of hospitality. Whether you’re walking the moor or just passing through, we couldn’t recommend it...
Read moreThis place is a true gem; bar and restaurant retaining it’s traditional feel, whilst offering food of the highest quality and amongst the usual beverages an exhaustive selection of gins and malt whiskeys. We had the most wonderful meal last night, starting with crusty bread and a selection of olives. For main I had wild mushroom and spinach pie, dauphinois potatoes, tender stem broccoli and red cabbage. My husband had traditional fish and chips with home made mushy peas. Good portions leaving us too full for desert unfortunately. Faultless service; staff were friendly and around, not at all intrusive. We sat at the small table by the bar in front of the fireplace, not an issue at all for us unlike the person who I see has mentioned the same table in their bad review. We did not stay at the Globe overnight purely because we were travelling by motorbike and unfortunately they do not have on site parking. Admittedly Chagford is a tiny place and the parking is very close by and had we been in a car, this would not have been an issue at all. We live in Cornwall and this trip was just the one night away somewhere not too far. So we will definitely be returning, in the car and will stay and dine at the Globe Inn. I cannot recommend this place...
