Their are Cafes and then there is the Old Forge...no visit to Chagford or indeed the Moors should miss the opportunity to rest up, relax and dine in a truly warm and inviting restaurant which offers honest to goodness fare in a very homely atmosphere.

Breakfast is particularly exciting with something for every taste and palate...from the full Old Forge English Breakfast to simply toast with truly delicious jams..

And then there is the Devon Cream Tea...the scone alone should win a michelin star or two...freshly baked, light and warm, these masterpieces are supported by proper Devon clotted cream and a choice of jams...

What ever you order from their menu, rest assured you will not be dissapointed.

Treat yourself and travel companions...go to the Old Forge (reservation...

Excellent food and wine, lovely atmosphere, friendly, welcoming staff. I was late and no-one made me feel bad, they couldn't have been nicer. We were in a large party and some people felt there was too long a wait between courses, but I was perfectly happy to have a leisurely meal. Every course was delicious, roasted vegetable starter was well flavoured with herbs, the lamb shank beautifully tender, the home made profiteroles sensationally good and served with ice cream inside. A delicious red wine complemented it all (South African Pinotage). A good...

Worth the detour from the A30 for the fab food and friendly service. We originally came to Chagford to swim in the river at Fingle Bridge years ago. We still go back (on the way to/from Cornwall) for lunch at the Old Forge even if terrible weather prevents us swimming like today. Delicious fresh warm scones, a good selection of teas, and I wish I'd spotted the homemade clafoutis before ordering a scone on autopilot. Best lunch option for miles around. Highly...

We had an excellent experience at the Old Forge. We arrived after lunch on a Tuesday afternoon with a party of 15, including hordes of children, and yet they agreed to seat us and despite appearing to be a team of 2 staff/owners, they were extremely friendly and accommodating. The food was absolutely delicious! The smoked salmon hash was a stand out and the scones were so good - perfect texture, and served with a choice of craft jams. Could not have been happier that we stopped here.

Fantastic cafe, elevated amongst the usual kind of place by the amazing food and welcoming atmosphere. We tried the Fish finger sandwich (huge!), a beetroot and stilton hash and the Welsh rarebit. All absolutely delicious! I highly recommend this cafe - definitely worth making a visit to Chagford just to eat here
