Is it a restaurant or bar? Arrived for our first visit last Thursday 18th August to the try out this newly opened venue for a pre birthday meal. Whilst the concept states Wine, dine and social it would have been nice to be offered a table away from the cheering quiz teams taking part in the quiz that was about to start. (only announced after we had ordered our food). I didn't get our servers name but she was lovely and did her very best to make us enjoy our experience. My wife and I both ordered the pate to start which was very nice. Unfortunately, that's where the joy of the food ended. We both ordered duck with fondant potatoes. It arrived and looked fabulous on the plate, however our attempts to cut into these duck were met with much resistance. It was quite possibly the toughest piece of food I've ever attempted to eat. The fondant potatoes were no better. Looked amazing but totally undercooked and hard in the middle. I pesevered with my meal and my wife tried to but just couldn't bring herself to eat any more so attracted the attention of our server. She was very apologetic and returned it to the kitchen. A short time later she returned to say that because my wife had eaten a good portion of her duck (2 small pieces) the chef would only remake the fondant potatoes. This came as a shock to us but we let it go for now. A while later (15 minutes) our server returned to say that the chef was willing to provide a complete new dish but it would take a little while. 25 minutes later the fresh dish arrived and low and behold the fondant potatoes were cooked to perfection along with the accompanying veg. The fresh duck however was diabolical to put it mildly. My wife again tried 2 more pieces of the duck and stopped eating as she couldn't even get her knife to make any sort of impression in to it. Safe to say, the meal was left AGAIN and we drank up, went to the bar to settle the bill and leave. My wife carried her plate to the bar and passed it to our embarrassed server asking her if she would like to ask the chef if he would attampt try to cut through the duck with the knife and fork she was supposed to eat it with. She went off to the kitchen and came back, not a word was spoken and no site of the chef. We ask the bar staff for our bill and at no point were we offered a reduction for the poor quality of the meal we had been served. The duck dish was price at £22.95 and quite frankly I wouldn't have paid a pound for it had we known just how poor quality it would turn out to be. Our bill for 2 starters, 2 mains and 2 drinks each came to over £80. When I first saw that this place was opening, I quite liked the concept of it and have waited a few weeks before trying it out. Unfortunately, we will not be returning. If you're going to have a rowdy quiz night but still want to serve food may I suggest you seat diners away from it and please, ask yourself would you enjoy and pay your hard earned cash for the food you are serving. I fear that my answer is,...
Read moreWhilst I note and appreciate the below reviews regarding this venue recently opening, which from Instagram was a week and a half ago on the 23rd of June. The experience received was very poor not the experience promised on the website “Our caring and committed staff make sure you have a fantastic experience with us..”. To add further context there was a table of 2 next to us who left as we arrived, another table of 2 to the right as you walk in and a table of 6 perhaps further along from us (who also had many issues with their food)
Drinks were served and one drink was missing. This was fine as staff were as below mentioned new and mistakes happen. We then waited around 50 minutes for our meals despite only ordering a pizza, burger and a starter to share which we had specified could come as and when it was ready. A positive to this experience is the staff kept coming over an apologising for the delay and were clearly embarrassed themselves. This was done 3 times during the course of us waiting. During the 3rd time I made reference to us having further plans and potentially needing to leave if the food was not ready, now having worked in hospitality at this point I’d cut my loses refund the meal and drinks and leave it at that but I was told a “discount could be discussed”. The food swiftly arrived restoring our faith that it had not in fact been lost and not found and as the pizza was placed down it caught my friends white hoodie staining it with tomato sauce (albeit again an innocent mistake) it really did add to the experience. The burger was average but was hot and something to eat at least, the chips were stone cold which was raised to staff they offered to re make but at this point we needed to go so I opted for a refund of that dish which was appreciated. My friend also described the pizza as average. All in all I would say avoid this bar for the time being with the hope that dwindling numbers will force improvement. I welcome any contact from the venue to query or discuss any of the matters...
Read moreBrought here Monday 30/01/2023 for my birthday lunch. Arrived at 11:30 ordered food at 12 (this is their starting time) first table to order. Food arrived at 12:55 after other tables were served, the orders didn’t come out together and then were incomplete. Ordered two steak sandwiches and a full English. Not sandwiches at all, more a salad, as provided with 3 tiny rounds of garlic bread. I appreciate it states open steak sandwich but it’s fair to assume under the sandwich section there would be an acceptable amount of bread to make an actual sandwich. Steak was chewy and tough not £14.95 worthy. My friend who ordered the same requested no onions, sauce still came with onions..she has an allergy. No fries brought with either meal which states on menu accompanies, had to ask about three times, friends eventually came at the end of her meal, cold and the basket put directly onto her plate while she was eating from it. Asked why other tables were served before us when we ordered first, to be told the steak takes longer so other tables meals cooked first. Makes absolutely no sense at all and also not when medium rare requested. First cup of coffee each were served in takeaway cups and no biscuits. Upon complaint, fresh coffees in mugs with biscuits, however cold coffee. My friends partner still waited 55 minutes for his breakfast and had to pay. The two ‘sandwiches’ were removed and a round of drinks. I was then requested to provide my email as I would be contacted and offered a revisit as VIP to apologise for all the inconsistencies and disappointment. To date heard absolutely nothing back. Minimal staff, one young server handling food dishes with nail varnish on. There was a private function that day for a funeral that was used to explain away delays. If you cannot cater to a private function as well as the public walking in, don’t try. It was my actual birthday that day and it was ruined. Will not be recommending...
