Burford Road Fish Bar — Restaurant in West Oxfordshire

When it comes to decent fish and chips, on the whole I don't get much joy this side of Devon or Yorkshire. But I have bought fish and chips from Burford Road Fish Bar many times, and it has been uniformly excellent. Succulent cod, light and crispy batter and spot-on chip shop type chips. Perfect every time. The other F&C establishment in Carterton centre can be very hit and miss in my experience.

I guess the chip portion sizes could be a bit bigger, but that said I am a gluttonous hog and I could always buy more or choose larger portions. For regular folk, the portions are fine.

I have always found the staff warm and helpful, and the owner in particular is always super-friendly and enthusiastic about what he does. My cheeriness on entering is always reflected back at me, and I suppose if I was a grumpy sod I might get treated in kind. Who knows? Whenever we have that craving for fish & chips, regardless of where we are, we drive straight to Burford Road Chippy. The fresh fish is to die for, crispy and dry, I don't know how they get the chips the way they do but they are just delicious! My favourite meal of the week is my fish & chip supper, fresh bread and butter and of course mushy peas. Wouldn't be the same without my cup of tea. This place is the best for miles around, can't recommend highly...

Returned to fish chip shop gave 2stars … last visit. Fish much better and crispy batter on this visit and chips great

Always aim for we are the best chippy ….not second best . Look at recipes. And be proud. To work in a hard industry. With increasing costs.
