Cafe Le Raj Chipping Norton — Restaurant in West Oxfordshire

Late delivery, food cold, bland and inedible.

Clearly this restaurant is struggling lately. Either it is under new management, has a new head chef or was never worth the reviews it got in the first instance.

I ordered a takeaway from Cafe Le Raj to be delivered. I live 5 minutes walk away. The food arrived an hour later. Everything was cold.

The chips were clearly oven chips straight out of the bag, not even decent quality.

The chicken was dry - it had likely been sitting in warm sauce for hours before it arrived.

The popadoms were stale.

The onion bhaji tasted like they had been cooked in stale oil.

The sauces were bland.

We phoned to complain. The proprieter offered to send new food within 10 minutes. I said please don't bother, but they wouldn't listen.

20 minutes later, nothing had arrived, so I phoned to say not to bother, because the best that would happen would be warmer food that was still sub-standard.

I have no idea if this was a one off, but it does seem you can hide a hundred food sins serving hot food, but you can't hide when that food gets cold.

Poor quality, poor flavour, absolutely swimming in oil. I will never visit this establishment again and would never recommend it to anyone.

I have no idea how it got reviewed over 4 stars - that's one of the reasons I decided to try it.

Just goes to show you can't trust ANY reviews - word of mouth is all you can go on.

If you have been lucky enough to have eaten at high quality indian restaurants many times and thus know intimately how quality indian food should taste, this isn't it. Not even close. Avoid...

While lodging across the street, we stumbled upon Cafe Le Raj by chance. The staff greeted us warmly and offered helpful suggestions. Upon their recommendation, we tried the Papadum set for an appetizer, which turned out to be a delightful surprise—refreshing and delicious; even our three-year-old enjoyed it. For our main course, we opted for the lamb balti, which was cooked to perfection in a flavorful curry sauce. The portion sizes were generous, almost too much to finish; we could have easily shared. The final bill was pleasantly affordable, though I mistakenly assumed the service charge was included. Upon leaving, I realized my oversight regarding tipping culture, and I regretted not inquiring about it earlier. Few weeks ago I ordered from them to be delivered to Great Rollright. I did not get the deliver after one hour and so I had to call them few times until they finally answered. The person on the phone said “its on its way”. One hour later, I call them again to check on the status of the food I ordered. It took them more than 2 hours to deliver something that should have taken maximum 10min. We were so hungry and when we opened the package, we were so disappointed to find out we did not receive the favorite butter chicken we ordered and instead we received chicken korma.
