I went there for dinner recently with a small party and with a reservation but was disappointed. It seems to have gone downhill lately. This visit reminded me of Fawlty Towers. It was not very busy but there was a queue of people waiting to be served. The manager was grumpy and uninterested in any customers except the two apparently unhappy travellers for whom he was looking for alternative accommodation. He shouted instructions to the bar staff who ignored him. The bar staff looked like they were 3/4 of the way through a 24-hour shift. It seemed that the queue of customers was a burden to be tolerated. There was only one young lad running about trying to do everything but appearing to have no clue what he was doing. Our reserved table was not ready and full of the previous occupants’ food but the young lad didn’t know how to clear it. After waiting, we found a new bar table and then rejoined the queue to order food and drinks. Not surprisingly only the first half of the order appeared and the young lad scurried away to the kitchen to find the other half. To their credit the first half was very nice but the second was not. An example being the BBQ chicken which, the young lad confirmed, had been hurriedly microwaved. This left it discoloured, hard and dry and drowned...
Read moreBooked in early to the Bushel for a couple of nights and we were warmly greeted by Steve and he gave us the key to our room. Stayed in a room off the car park which was clean and functional and had all the amenities required. We did not eat our main meals in the pub but had snacks in the evening which were on the small size. The bar staff Josh and Logan were very welcoming including Dawn who seems to do a bit of everything. The pub has got a lovely friendly warm atmosphere and it is just minutes walk from the lovely town centre which has lots of shops and interesting places to visit.||Our breakfasts in the morning were not great – the continental side consisted of apples and oranges, juices and boxes of cereals that were best suited for children. One morning there were a few muffins. The cooked breakfast was not great either the sausage was not browned off and tasted funny and it looked anaemic (the taste I believe was down to herbs) the bacon was not much better. Mentioned the lack of choice to the manager and he said that they were waiting on supplies which were due to be delivered the next day so that did not help us as we were about to check out! The accommodation and the staff we encountered...
Read moreWe stayed two nights in the Abbot room over the main bar and was very impressed. The pub is very central to the town centre and is right next to the shops . It also has the benefit of a decent size car park which had ample space . The room had all the basics and was of a good size with a great double bed . It was a very cold evening when we arrived and the heating was off , but we turned the radiators on and the room was like toast all over the weekend as i think the heating was on 24/7. The shower was amazing , always piping hot and the towels were superb, large and fluffy. ||The breakfast was good it was a reasonable size , they apologised for no baked beans and cornflakes but served up great toast , and pots of tea and coffee. ||The bar area got very busy on Friday , we had been out, but the noise never got through to our room and we didn't hear any of the other guests in their rooms. ||All the staff we met were very nice and friendly and the room was very well cleaned even though some of the fittings in the bathroom had seen better days , but what do you expect for the prices they are charging. ||We will...
