My wife and I recently had the pleasure of staying at the Old Cannon Brewery, and it was nothing short of magical. From the moment we walked through the doors, we felt like we'd stumbled upon a hidden gem of warmth and hospitality. Accommodation: Our room was a delightful blend of history and comfort. It was immaculately clean, and the rustic decor transported us to another time. We couldn't help but appreciate the attention to detail that made our stay feel truly special. The comfortable bed ensured we woke up refreshed and ready for each day's adventures. Restaurant: The Old Cannon Brewery's restaurant was a culinary revelation. With a dedication to sourcing local ingredients, the menu was a tantalizing journey through flavors, catering to all tastes. Food: Each dish we had the pleasure of savoring was a symphony of flavors, a true testament to the culinary expertise in the kitchen. We must give a special shoutout to the chef for the exquisite presentation, turning every plate into a work of art. The brewery's own beers were a revelation, and we particularly enjoyed the helpful beer tastings that allowed us to experience the diverse range of beers they craft right there in the pub. Meeting Locals and Travelers: One of the highlights of our stay was the opportunity to meet both fellow travelers and friendly locals. It gave us a sense of the vibrant community that frequents this establishment. We were even treated to a quick tour of the beer-making process, which was both educational and fun. Exceptional Staff: Every employee we encountered was exceptionally friendly, knowledgeable, and incredibly helpful. They weren't just staff; they felt like friends, eager to enhance our experience in any way they could. Atmosphere: The ambiance of the Old Cannon Brewery was inviting, offering both indoor and outdoor seating options. It wasn't a rowdy party pub but rather a tranquil destination where we could enjoy each other's company and engage in pleasant conversations with new friends. Convenient Location: Another noteworthy feature of this charming establishment is its convenient location. It's just a short walk to the old town shopping area and a mere 8-minute stroll to the train station, making it an ideal base for exploring the area. Conclusion: Our stay at the Old Cannon Brewery and Restaurant was not just a visit; it was an enchanting journey into history, culinary artistry, and genuine hospitality. We're already looking forward to our next visit, eager to create more cherished memories at this remarkable establishment. Thank you, Old Cannon Brewery, for a truly unforgettable experience that will remain etched in our hearts.

Group of 4. Seated promptly with out a booking. Sat outside on a nice spacious area. Service was a little clunky, not having enough cutlary and things and being asked our order twice by different people but everyone was friendly enough so easey to look past it. The menu is a little different to your traditional pub food. Lobster was on the menu but they didnt actually have any. We had the brie mac and cheese and it was well presented. Good portion size but be warned, very very cheesy. The description made reference to it also including rarebit beer toast but it was either not recognisable or it wasn't served. All things considered was very ok meal, in a friendly and well finished establishment, some room for improvement but not enough to put you off.

Very excited to have breakfast here as my friend claimed it was the best breakfast he had ever had. It might have been if it was not for the terrible service. Was a bit annoyed at first as we seemed to be ignored and two couples who arrived after us were served before we were even given our menu. We were not sure why we were ignored but we thought it might have been because Aaron's girlfriend Emma made a joke the day before about dust. My advice would be to work on your jokes before coming to the old cannon Brewery, if they don't land your not getting offered any sauce! The breakfast was very great quality. we were very pleased the beans were in a separate bowl because Aaron doesn't like it they touch the rest of his food. He loves a cuddle tho.

Sunday lunch with family. Used to be very good. Gone a bit down hill. Being seen to the table was strangely hard for the staff, who were confused where we were to be seated. We ordered. 45 minutes later after confusion about when the food was supposed to arrive (err all at once?) our Sunday lunches we served. I immediately understood that stringent portion control had definitely kicked in here! I’m happy to pay higher prices for quality Sunday lunches but I do expect more than one slice of carrot / parsnip. I did wonder at one point if vegetable side plates were coming out but was disappointed to find my vegetables under my thinly sliced beef. I was so crestfallen. We ate and eventually ordered more drink. At which point we got forgotten for a while for the second drinks order delivery (we ordered, they just didn’t arrive). The pudding order was also put in (I know, we should have cut our losses but we were still hungry) to only be told that an ingredient was missing for the sundae, and was asked by the waiter if this would be a problem? I responded as best I could “I don’t know, is it? I’ve not made it before. Can you replace it with something else?” The waiter checks before coming back as asks me if I’d like something else from the menu, but doesn’t show me the menu. Yep. That good. I asked for something else that looked safe. I received what I ordered. It was bland. Just like the way my daughter’s calamari starter definitely ‘brought the harbour’ to the table in terms of taste (and not in a romantic way), the chocolate torte may well have been right out of the local Aldi supermarket but I was hungry! Paid the ransome including the service charge that was auto added on their behalf (of course ha ha ha) and then we got home. Made myself the best cheese sandwich I’ve had in had in ages. I should say the time we went before to the Cannon was back in autumn 2024. The food back then was fantastic. As was the service. Something has changed. Not going back. Why the heck did I give this 3 stars? I’m British! And that cheese sandwich has put me in a...

Me and my partner stayed here as a last minute booking for one night after a wedding that went on till pretty late. Sadly there was little positive to report about our short lived stay and when we wernt asked how our stay was we both felt the need to write a review.

Our room described as having an "extra large" bed really was just a double possibly a CM bigger. The mattress was hard and felt like it was of a poor / cheap quality.

Between 11-12pm we were disturbed by loud drunk locals. We heard load bangs and yelling.. this stopped for about an hour then started again. Whilst we recognise this isn't necessarily the fault of the staff or hotel, there should be a policy to not allow drunks near the guest rooms after a certain time. Just to top it all off we were woken up at 7.45am by loud drilling in the wall next door.

Breakfast was about as organised as a dog's dinner and reminded me of when I last went to the circus. Huge cooking spoons and small tea spoons were left next to the cereal dishes along with random sachets of butter and jam. After about 10 minutes of waiting around, we were asked what we'd like to drink, both of our latte's were watery and had a really unpleasant sour / after taste. Apple juice also tasted cheap and diluted. The 45 minute wait for our breakfast did not pay off. Two small streaks of bacon cooked one sided were charcoaled in areas, the sourdough toast was like a long crispy nacho and everything else tasted cheap and unpleasant. Neither myself or my partner could finish our breakfast or coffees and in all honesty we couldn't wait to leave.

The old cannon brewery should focus on what their probably very good at, serving good quality beer to local customers because based on our experience this is nothing more...
