Popped in for a bottle of wine & lunch. There was a 40 minute wait for food which we didn't mind at all. At least we knew it would be freshly cooked. It was really nice & good value for money although my wife's meal was barely warm. We didn't complain though. Typical old fashioned pub owned by Greene King.

Quality pub, no uncomfortable feeling even with me being a stranger here. Back garden/smoking area with pool table. Good game of Poker on Tues at 7:30. 30+/- players (TheNuts Poker League).

Best pies filled with tender steak and could taste the Ale. Best pies we have eaten. Will come again and with the family. Staff where welcoming and the locals felt at home.

The food took a long time to come out, my friend and I were told that there would be a wait, and as it was busy and we were watching the rugby we didn't mind the wait.

It was 45 minutes and we didn't see any other food coming out of the kitchen whatsoever.

What we ordered was the mango chili chicken and there was a distinct lack of mango and chill in the chicken plus a very small amount of sauce in the pitta bread which made for a very dry meal and the corn on the cob looked like it had been cooked before I walked in the building. My friend's chicken nuggets were extremely overcooked and could have been used as weapons they were that hard.

The service at the bar was great though. I do like the Grapes but the food was a bit of a letdown on this occasion, the staff did say it was a new chef on but 45 minutes was in my eyes too long when we couldn't see anyone...

I feel we were treated disgracefully last night at The Grapes. We are 6 respectful adults with our 17 yr old son. We were checked by 2 security workers before entering and allowed to buy 5 drinks and a soft drink for our son. Then shockingly asked to leave because our son is 17. Why then did 2 security staff not ask this outside ? It was extremely humiliating. No apology, no offer of refund for the drinks. Shameful behaviour to see us in, take our money for drinks and ask us to leave. We visited several bars in town. We asked another the rules on 17 yr olds & were told they are welcome but no alcohol....

Booked a table for an evening meal (Saturday 26th November, 6pm). Arrived ahead of time and went to check in, only to be told that they don't accept bookings from the app and the kitchen closed at 6pm - somehow this was my fault! Had to hastily find somewhere else to seat a party of six at short notice. My first bad experience with a Greene King pub.

Edit: I have now spoken with Lou from the Grapes, who was profusely apologetic for the experience and offered me compensation for it. I have asked that this be donated to a charity I support so that they may use it to fund...
