Came to Bury St Edmunds on Friday for my best friends wedding on Saturday. We had A LOT to do at the venue on Friday to get it ready for the big day. We planned and tried to order pizza express via deliveroo or any other online/phone way as pizza express does decent GF pizzas and the bride is GF but unfortunately we had 0 signal at the venue (we are from London so really hadnāt considered that it would potentially be challenging to order food for 20 people on the fly and itās totally ok if anyone finds that funny because it isš). Resorting to desperate, pre-mobile phone measures we decided to just go down to pizza express in the town on the off chance they might be able to help us (whilst also being aware that turning up to a restaurant at 7pm on a Friday night to ask for enough pizzas for 20 people cooked asap was a big ask). We explained our situation to the host and were told she would see if the kitchen were able to help us. As someone who previously worked in a restaurant I have no idea how she convinced them to do it but we were in luck and told they could cook for us but wait time was about 45mins.. which we were fine with. We asked for the romana bases just based on their size but host even suggested to us we should go for classic so that they would stay warmer for longer on our journey back which was a good suggestion. We were shown to a seat that we could wait in and offered drinks while we waited. The restaurant was pretty busy but the pizzas were out in about 30mins instead of 45!!. When we got back to the venue we even found the pizzas had been presliced for us and all including the bride were happy. Host was lovely, kitchen did a great job turning them out and the pizzas were tasty. Iām sure they would prefer people to not just turn up and ask them to feed 20 people on the fly but throughly pleased with the service they provided! I wish I could remember the hosts name to thank her here as it would have been very (very) easy to just turn us away (and tbh what we expected) but 20 very hungry friends and family were very grateful that we were not...
Ā Ā Ā Read morePopped in to Pizza Express, after the pizza restaurant a few doors down had the most uninterested staff ever- one picking her teeth whilst we waited, all helping us decide to not spend our money there- HOWEVER; blessing in disguise, because we are really glad we went to Pizza Express now. š
Eight of us; some of us hungry, a couple of us on the edge of serious Hangriness!!! All ready for a good meal.
Welcomed by a waitress with a lovely big smile, who was all about helping us and getting a table set up straight away.
What a great team here- weāve never visited before, but guaranteed, we shall do again. š
Really looked out for the youngest diners on our table, giving them time and attention to order their own choices, as-well as making us all feel welcomed, relaxed, and great with light hearted banter.
The food was really good, pizzas done perfectly, tasty, hot and fresh. Bang-on! Pasta was cooked brilliantly.
Our food was served quickly, the desserts were tasty, very enjoyable, the restaurant was bright airy and clean.
The waiter was exceptionally good; attentive, focussed, listened acutely and noticed everything!! What a great guy (if you ever see this review just know that YOU, made this visit completely enjoyable for all eight of us). This waiter even spotted my youngest dropping a Dough Ball on the floor- within a minute he was at the table with a fresh replacement, taking the dropped one away with him (without us even knowing heād seen anything!).
A tip was, of course, given.
We give this restaurant our top āsix smileā...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreTurned up after reserving table for 19:00, Had no record of table so we had to wait for a table. Then was served with dirty plates and cutlery, pizza was wrong and cold, then i tried leaving feedback to the assistant manager he shrugged his shoulders pulled the bull ring sticking through his snout and turned his back on us, stamped his feet walked off and wasnt offered a refund for having been messed around with the food, assistant manager. Should not have such a role that he has to come and moan to his collegues about other customers, simple reason they wanted chicken on their pizza and it was wrong when they got it, no skin of his teeth why would he care he should put it right... wouldnt cost him anything his a silly man as a result it left us with a appalling taste in the mouth a ruined birthday meal, discusted by the service, from such a well known restaurant his trousers were also half way round his back side, which is also inappropriate and unhygenic, wouldnt return in a hurry and wouldnt recommend to any one, its a shame one person being the assistant manager should be allowed to dress the way he was and treat customers like he did shocking service. Discusted the way he walked off and said nothing else to us, was no where to be seen after we gave him feedback about the meal. 0...
