Zen — Restaurant in West Suffolk

Vegan/Vegetarians beware! Run by really rude staff. When my friend asked which things on the menu were vegan the guy just said "oh well why don't you just choose something first??" Then came back with a crumpled up booklet a little while later saying "I don't know what "vegan" is (worrying when you work in a restaurant) but here are the ingredients if you must see" Twice I have ordered a vegetable rendang (takeaway) and a received meat one instead and had to bin it, and one time my veggie rendang had something that was definitely not vegetable texture.... I spat it out to see it was actually meat. If they are keeping meat and veggie dishes separately there is no way a stray piece of meat should land in my vegetarian curry. Used to be so good here, but the staff have changed and now...

Party of seven and while the others were fine I ordered Singapore noodle and asked for no peppers. Service was ok but no communication from server or staff before or after .While eating my food I could taste peppers and low and behold I found some . I believe my dish was premade and heated up and the peppers removed (could still taste them) as it was mil's 75 birthday didn't make a fuss and while it was a meal that tastes good for me I would be concerned if I had an allergy as if a no pepper request was ignored what else could be? The others all liked their food and the sides looked very good . Four of the group had dessert and all looked good and wife loves the banana fritters. I might try again in awhile but a simple request for something to be excluded in a "freshly made dish?"...

Service is not that friendly. Crispy duck not crispy Beers not cold Duck pancakes came with dry limp old cucumber which we had to have replaced. While this was being replaced duck and pancakes went cold so we had to ask for this to be refreshed. No apology or any thing offered to make up for this. They forget that when mistakes like this are made it ruins the ambiance of your evening out and makes it less enjoyable. We all work hard for our money and to be able to eat out. Why can’t they just get the food right or make it right with a free drink etc? We left feeling negative. We normally just get take away from here and that’s all I wound recommend it for. We won’t be back for food or takeaway for a while as when things are substandard I vote...
