We come most Sundays but we were unfortunate enough to end up arriving just prior to a very entitled group of 10+. They were told that there were no tables big enough so decided to divide themselves up between tables. They then hogged the bar for a good 20 minutes making decisions on their food etc as they ordered. I was then asked by a member of the party if we would mind moving tables so that they could sit together. Imagine asking a family with a one year old and a very pregnant woman if they would mind moving even though they arrived before you and were already sat down with drinks and menus. Imagine being that entitled! We elected to finish our drinks and leave without eating because there wasn’t much effort made to hurry the group up even though they were clearly deciding and shouting across the pub about what meals they wanted as the barman was taking the order. If you see this, in future decide at your table what you want and then go to the bar and order. Also don’t ever see yourselves as superior to anybody and ask other customers to move table to suit you, even though they arrived before you. I stood at the bar for around 15 minutes behind this group while they just made decisions and didn’t really achieve much.
We regularly visit this pub and it is very good. Staff were very patient with this horrid group of people who decided that they were the most important people in the pub...
Read moreThe entire pub on first impression smelt like cigarette smoke as staff smoke directly outside the pub. A group of us (work meal) were greeted at the bar with one waitress stating "I'm not serving them", so another waitress who was flustered came to serve us. She didn't have a clue on the system where any item was. Soup was told to be one thing but actually served us another kind of soup. Starters came with no cutlery and my bread had fallen of the plate onto the floor as the waitress approached, starters were tasteless. After 30 minutes mains were not at the table. Then it all came flying out and super hot plates that they handed to us without any warning that it's hot. One member of the table burnt his hands as the waitress forgot she was holding it with a napkin. Main meals were atrocious, steak was over cooked - why ask how how you want it cooked if it just comes well done anyway, burgers were extremely dry and chips covered in salt. Beef pie contained no meat. Only thing good was the drinks which of course weren't made in anyway by the staff there.
Extremely overpriced, microwaved, tasteless, cheap food.
A real big let down. Staff were not attentive and it wasn't busy at all- but now I understand why. Avoid this "pub" at all costs. Better to head to Tesco down the road and pick up...
Read moreAlthough not specifically aimed towards students, which isn't a dig or to be discriminatory. The college is literally a few minutes walk from there, so it makes sense they use it, and that's not really the issue.
There were a few locals there, too, and we were visiting the local hotel near there at the time.
We ordered from the QR app, which was ok, but our drink orders took a while, and it wasn't that busy at the time. We ordered the hummus sharing plate as well.
The cocktails were more like a watered-down cordile served in a large tumbler glass with a bit of ice that was meant to be a strawberry daiquiri I believe, but it was way too sweet and I couldn't taste anything else, it wasn't pleasant I couldn't drink it all.
The food was a bit small on the portions for sharing and basic. It was cheap and cheerful, which is ok if you want that.
In comparison to other pubs that serve food and drink in that area, it just wasn't up there with the competition. I've put another star because it wasn't terrible, it just wasn't great in my personal opinion. Looking at other reviews and pictures, most are good. Unfortunately, our experience...
