I took my family out for lunch on Sunday 11th February to the Anchor, what a beautiful pub with really nice atmosphere, the food and service didn't quite reflect this, I am not a critic and I hate complaining about poor food and customer service I worked in this industry for 22 years, however I was really disappointed with quality of some of the dishes. my wife ordered the Mushrooms with cheese as a starter which had little to no flavour at all, my pate was delicious, my grandson had the whipped goats cheese which was good, he received a small piece of bread to accompany this, my grandson asked if could ask for another slice and I was charged £1 for the 1 slice, (Really ? it didn't even have any butter on). on too the mains, I ordered the Fish & Chips, first thoughts was it was well presented and looked good, it wasn't, the fish tasted sour and had a really strange synthetic taste, when the waitress came to collect the plates, obviously my fish barely touch, I told her I had an issue with the fish and it wasn't right, it looked and smelt off, she said she would tell the chef and I would have hoped either a manager, supervisor would have came and spoke to me about it and made an adjustment to the cost of this dish, 2 minutes later, the waitress had her coat on and finished her shift. the bill came to £172 and I was charged in full for the fish and chips, safe to say it will not be planning a future trip back to the...
Read moreAs someone who is new to the area and has extensive allergies, eating out is a bit of a nightmare for me. So finding somewhere like The Anchor who were incredibly accommodating, was very much appreciated. I found it to be a very warm, homely feeling old style style building. It was very clean and the staff were very friendly. Kerry, Amy & Dave looked after us for lunch today. Kerry was lovely. Every question I had about the food, or querying ingredients, it felt like it was no bother and everything was checked for me. Full credit to Dave the chef - as someone who mainly eats fish with plain accompaniments, it was possibly one of the nicest pieces of sea bass I have had in the UK. Crispy skin, flaky flesh - delicious. My friend had the chicken & cheese pie and said it was extremely tasty. Rarely do I get to enjoy a dessert anymore, but I was able to have the mini pud of fresh fruit with coconut sorbet. Again, small, lovely little portion and the sorbet was incredibly rich and creamy. Kerry once again was on the ball, and brought out the ingredients for me to check. Right up until I left the table, Kerry went above and beyond. My friend had the lemon tart. Lovely afternoon. Lovely setting. Fantastic service. Don't know when, but I'll be back. Thank you for this afternoon!...
Read moreI have never seen so many folk sawing away at pork belly to get a knife through. Had one myself elsewhere and melted away under knife as expected while crisp on top. I guess the chef here needs experience. I ordered a burger as I am rarely disappointed by burgers in pubs and restaurants. My expectations were high and while the burger was better than shoe leather I am unsure that Mcdonald's might have been on a par. While service was friendly the staffs attention to their customers was not exemplary. Staff did have a good time chatting to one another and had they not been supporting the service station next to the table one might have forgotten what they looked like. The host was so impressed with the bill that he initially thought there had been a mistake and felt it should have been halved. Given the quality of food and service I am inclined to agree with him. As it was a special family occasion we paid up and left. I personally will not be hurrying back. There are many better places to eat...
