A very disappointing day for sons christening. We had booked my sons christening at the marquee 2 months in advance after having great experiences here before in the restaurant & the marquee looked beautiful at Christmas time. We advised there would be 40 people attending including my family that flew over from Ireland to come. After an initial telephone call, a face to face discussion also & a final telephone call to confirm Option A buffet with the scouse meal as hot option for the extra fee, after all it is December & I wanted my guests to have a hot meal as well as sandwiches, all was booked for a set fee which we were more than happy to pay!
We arrived and everything was great sandwiches came out until we questioned why the hot food was taking so long. It was now after 3pm at this rate. When asked when it would be coming out, the lady who I've seen in person twice & spoken to on the phone twice came out and said we never ordered the hot food. To make things worse she advised of a conversion on the phone about tea and coffee that never took place, I was never offered this option and insisted she was lying about this. To this she replied no it definitely happened which the most annoying attitude and snottiness I've ever encountered.
It was 3pm my guests were here 2 hours already & I was getting extremely annoyed at what had happened, was so disappointing to not get what we paid for when we confirmed this 4 times!! We were been advised on this option with the added hot dish instead of option C (4 hot dishes) as we only wanted the one hot dish & everyone loves Scouse on a cold day.
We ended up having people leave after this as no wonder why they were hungry, we weren't even offered discount, another option or an other resolution to feed my guests! we were giving business for nearly 7 hours with 40 people buying at the bar all day! To not been given the meals we paid for is an absolute disgrace & complete let down!
If that wasn't bad enough even the smallest thing was a chore for them & the attitude of the lady in red top at the bar when I asked for a bin liner to clean the tables & a knife for cutting the cake I was told why do you need a bin bag, you don't need one! I told her that the place was becoming untidy and people can't put their drinks on the table, her attitude was absolutely terrible.
Overall it is so disappointing left a very sour taste in my guests mouth, even a few days later it is still so frustrating that the manager was making up lies about a telephone call, and not committing to their word & what I paid £300 for 3 plates of sandwiches.
I know I won't be returning here which is a shame as it's very local to me & great food but to not even be given an apology or even attempt to make the situation right is distasteful.
My only regret is not leaving when this happened as the fact we were even continuing to buy at the bar even annoyed me contributing to their business when they've let me down & my family...
Read moreI booked a table for 4 a few days before we went for our meal and had no problem booking. The man who took my booking was efficient and polite.
Fast forward to the day of the meal. We arrived at 6:25 to find our table was ready! We were sat at a table and told when we arrived that the light fitting was quite low and to be careful when getting up and down.
Our party consisted on me and mybpartner, my mother (who is carrying oxygen) and her sister, my auntie, who had come home to the Wirral for a flying visit and was her last day!!
We were all rather impressed with the range of food on offer and struggled to pick a meal as there was so many lovely sounding dishes to choose from. We made our choices and our starters arrived quickly! Piping hot and delicious. Mum had the soup, which was Beef and veg and ate every mouth full. I had my fave, Pate, and it was delicious and plentiful.
The mains arrived not too long after we'd finished our dinner and they were huge. My auntie who had chosen not to have a starter was amazed at the size of the portion and how fresh everything looked. Everything is home made on site by the chef and you could tell how much care had gone into it. Mum had the braised steak, which is her favourite and her go-to meal, and after not having a meal out for 2.5 years there she was glad to see it on the menu still. There was 2 lasagne and a New York peppered steak too.
All meals were piping hot and devoured by us. Where we sat we had prime view of a band setting their equipment up for a show later that evening. We decided to sit and chat and wait to see what the band was like before we left. My partner forgot the low hanging light fitting every time he left the table and banhe dhis head which was hilarious (the light fitting was free hanging so it didn't hurt).
We had a good amount of time to catch up and chat (as my partner and I hadn't seen my auntie since before Covid) and then the band started. They were thoroughly entertaining and my mum and auntie especially enjoyed asking for the requests that they played for them. We ended up staying until the end of the night and had a ball.
The band were called Los Amigos and played Spanish songs in the main.
We were only expecting to have gone for a meal and a catch up, but didn't leave til 11:30 having had a thoroughly good giggle. The staff were very diligent and polite and nothing was too much trouble. It was a cracking night start to finish!!! My auntie is already planning on coming back when she visits next!!
Thanks guys!! A...
Read moreWaste of time and money. Went there on 1st May for my mother-in-law's birthday. The marquee was nice (hence 2, not 1) but hugely disappointed by the food. My husband and his brother ordered chicken wings which they couldn't eat and soon returned as they were undercooked and rubbery. As the waitress asked, they honestly said it was not nice, but no reaction! My beetroot and feta salad didn't have any dressing in it and was dry. But when I asked for olive oil, they didn't have it! In fact, they didn't have any oil whatsoever which poses a question whether they actually cook anything locally at all or get stuff brought in and "microwaved"? My father-in-law's kebab's trio was hard as rock and "charred to perfection" so much that even the waitress finally apologized and said it will be taken off our bill. My slow-cooked braised steak, which appears to be bestseller on the menu, was hard and tasteless, I returned it, and the manager who happened to be at our table at the time, didn't think of anything better but actually talking back to the customer trying to explain to me that I was wrong and their steak is good. Thank you, it was a proper Gordon Ramsay Kitchen Nightmares experience. Tartar sauces were only available in small pouches (yet took ages to come when we asked for them) which we thought was a covid precaution but salt and pepper were, however, in classic jars. I honestly don't care about the sauce packaging but it all adds up to the assumption of their kitchen not functioning properly and serving reheated/microwaved meals. It was my mum-in-law's 75th birthday and it was totally spoilt and left both in-laws very upset, none of the family will ever come to you again. P.S. as you can see from the owner's response, the motto of this place is we're the best, whoever dares to disagree are all idiots. Instead of actually trying to get better. Or maybe just disregard it if everyone else is happy and we were the only customers unhappy. So maybe we weren't? There couldn't be a better proof for my...
