Brown Bear is a good cafe but in my opinion could go further.
I personally think the branding is really good and is a strong point for the cafe.
The coffee is nice, and is reasonably priced too.
The cafe itself is dog friendly which is a massive plus. The cafe is clean and presentable. If you are lucky to get a seat by the window, itās a pleasant part of the cafe to be in.
I have only been a handful of times but when I have been it is often busy. The cafe does seem to be low on staff compared to the customer numbers which is noticeable as you can be waiting a while to be served at the till.
The cafe has an open plan kitchen which is a nice addition. The menu is varied and there is a lot of options to pick from.
The food is probably the point which for me would bring it to a 5 star place. Now I will say there is nothing wrong with the food. It is cooked fine. I have also only tried the cooked breakfasts. However it is just very bland. There is no seasoning used on any of the breakfast items which leaves the food lacking in flavour. On the Wirral there are plenty of good breakfast places which use seasonings to increase flavours and as such, Brown Bear doesnāt stand out. It could easily be...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreAllergy aware but not allergy friendly. Always on the hunt for a new little favourite place unfortunately this was a big miss. Good coffee but I dont think ive been to a cafe in the 6 years Ive HAD to be gluten free where I have felt more like I was a pain in the backside! I think the staff probably are really nice but I think a bit of training would help both back and front of house. It might not have been the intention but because of my allergy apparently they had overcharged me by accident and had to turn on and then clean additional equipment for a slice of bacon. Having worked in catering it was depressing to see how what could have been a great place to eat be one we wouldn't bother with again. Just checked my Google reviews and it's the first 2 star review ive...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI stumbled across Brown Bear recently after an early morning ramble around Thurstaston Hill, it's a great little place. The design and decor is really cosy and relaxed, and I loved having a nose at all the photos of previous VIP dog visitors.āØāØI ordered the Reuban bagel, some frickles, and a lavender lemonade, what a treat! The bagel was delicious, packed full of filling and bursting with flavour. The frickles were a perfect accompaniment and something I rarely come across in the UK, would highly recommend trying.
Staff were super friendly, and despite the place being almost full everything came out of the kitchen in good time. Would happily visit again when Iām...
