First time visiting BUN (Born Up North). We booked a table for 8 people as it was our twins 18th Birthdays. I emailed the booking request but rather than waiting for a reply I used the WhatsApp option to communicate with the restaurant which I would recommend. The employee replying on the WhatsApp was polite and booked our table quickly and emailed a confirmation. My wife had taken balloons and a birthday cake up earlier in the day for the tables to be decorated and the staff where very helpful. We arrived and where guided to our table. The food menu is not too overwhelming as it is kept to a minimum which I prefer, easier to choose. The drinks menu however is massive haha. So I opted for the Wolf Burger with rosemary fries as it had been recommended to me by quite a few people that had already visited. The waiter was helpful and attentive. There was not a long wait for the food and the drinks where also served quickly. So we all tucked into our food and everyone was happy. My burger was very flavoursome and you could tell the patty was homemade. The fries where cooked and seasoned well but I could not tell if they where homemade unfortunately? The pot of slaw was very small but tasty and I would prefer a bigger pot to go with my burger and chips really. Once we had all eaten the staff kindly brought out the birthday cake and lit the fountains and candles. We did not have dessert as we tucked into our birthday cake. Unfortunately I only took one picture of my food as I was concentrating on the celebrations and its not the best pic I've ever taken. So overall a great place to eat, polite and helpful staff and great food. Some people may find it a bit too expensive but it's worth it as a treat if you can. We will return in the future. I had to give it 5 stars as it didn't warrant...
Read moreMy wife and I had lunch here yesterday. I regret not walking out immediately. Virtually no Covid protocols were observed. Our server did note wear a mask, nor other members of the staff. If you want to avoid the risk of catching Covid, I would strongly recommend that you stay away. As for the food, it was mediocre at best and certainly not good value for money.
I very much appreciate you taking the time to respond to my comments. However, given the highly infectious nature of the Omicron variant, I would have hoped you would go beyond the government guidelines. After all, it is clear that the current guidelines are inadequate given that close to 200,000 cases are being reported daily in the UK, one of the highest per capita rates in the world. I would argue that your staff has a casual attitude towards the protocols. Apart from not wearing a mask, our server (who was not wearing an apron, but rather, a rain/outdoor jacket) did not wipe down the credit card reader before nor after handing it to me. Overall, this did not inspire any confidence that my wife and I were in a safe environment.
Wow!- your arrogant and offensive response speaks volumes with respect to your distain for your customers. For your information, I am a professor with over 30 years experience in public health so I think I can speak with some confidence about public health and safety issues. My "cloth" mask is actually manufactured by 3M and exceeds the standards that define the ratings for...
Read moreWe'd seen a lot about BUN on Instagram and were excited to try it but I can't say we had the best experience. The burgers were OK but definitely not something we'd go out of our way to recommend. I think the patty could have been seasoned better. Its a small place and I get that they need as many covers as possible but the tables are quite crammed in and god help anyone that gets put on the table in front of the entrance with the door opening every 5 minutes blasting in cold air and people brushing past you to get to the bar. Service was great up until we finished our dinner at which point nobody came near us. They were busy either serving new arrivals or making cocktails. We did want a dessert and some more drinks but it took a good 30 minutes for us to flag anyone down so in the end we just asked for the bill. I am a tipper but I think tips should be earnt, so I was disappointed to see service charge was automatically added to the bill after the experience we had at the end of our meal where we had essentially been forgotten about. They do explain to you its on there and say they can take it off but how many people are really going to do that if they've had a bad experience? It's a backwards way of doing it. If tips are basically guaranteed, will staff really put in that...
