Interesting one, this. Want to start by pointing out that the wait staff are super friendly and helpful. Really great, asking if we're okay with the food, checking in for drinks, etc. Big shout to Zoe for looking after us, she's brill.
The food. Hmm. They didn't have the scallops, which was disappointing, but we'll definitely be back for them.
We had potato and leek soup as well as pork belly bites to start. The soup was a little overly salty but delicious all the same.
Scampi for main was cooked perfectly and really tasty. Came with chips that were probably a bit too crispy to the point we couldn't put a fork in some.
Steak sandwich for me. Choices were 'pink' or 'well done'. I asked for 'pink' and got well done. The table next to us got the same, although for some reason they didn't get any cheese either. I did though and it was great. Definitely recommend the steak sandwich.
That table also ordered chicken wings that also had to be sent back as they were cold inside...! Much more naughty than an overcooked steak. There were three tables nearby that had food issues, and that was just in the two hours we were there.
Desserts were great. Brownie was fantastic, but the highlight was the flapjack crumble with thick custard. Strongly recommend. Came with a lovely latte for £7.50, which is a bargain.
Ultimately lots of teething issues, some of them more serious than others - but tons of potential here, and some great front of house staff. We'll definitely be back: your boy needs more of that crumble.
Oh finally, they don't and can't add service charge onto the bill and we had no cash on us. But we'll make up for...
Read moreWe had high hopes of this recently opened eatery but in the end the whole family were somewhat underwhelmed. First impressions were, however, good. This one-time police station has been tastefully “done-up”. Décor pleasant and a relaxing atmosphere. Staff were great; very attentive and friendly. Then we get to the reason for us being there; to celebrate a double birthday and this is where the disappointment begins… with the food. The menu was limited with what I’d call basic pub-grub but at extortionate prices. Our starters were OK and very tasty but the mains were at best average. My steak and ale pie had watery gravy under a bland shortcrust soggy top. A pathetically small portion of chips and a tatty sprig of broccoli accompanied my pie. It didn’t taste bad to be fair, it was simply boring. One of my sons opted for a chicken burger which had a slab of dry tasteless chicken inside. He says the burger was way, way short of the burgers in the local Weatherspoons at a fraction of the price. My wife’s dish was little better she was subjected to a single carrot sliced in half to accompany a dollop of mash along with her fish. Also, as usual the wine prices were exorbitant. What peeved me at the end, was being told I could noy pay with my Amex card which was embarrassing; I had to cadge my son’s card and repay pay him when we got back home. For heaven’s sake, even Aldi and Lidl accept Amex. Absolutely pathetic! I doubt very much we’ll be going back to visit Mr Harry...
Read moreFor a new pub/restaurant the menu was good, unfortunately the execution did not meet the expectations. We took the table offered unfortunately it was opposite the door and thus every time the door was opened we experienced a blast of cold air. Service was slow, which would have been fine if the food had been up to scratch. We started with a mix of three sharing small plates. The positive was that there were four wings and four spam fritters, the negative was that whilst we'll cooked there was no crunch nor spice to the buffalo wings, the spam fritters needed more spam and less fritter. The belly pork and black pudding bites were acceptable. On to the main courses the fish for the battered haddock, smelt quite strong when cut in to, it was also a tad over cooked. The liver did not come with buttered cabbage as described on the menu, it was supplied when asked. Overall we found the starter plates to be somewhat greasy and main courses just a little underwhelming. All the food was found to be under seasoned. A very disappointing...
