North Shore Coffee House and Kitchen — Restaurant in Wirral

Have visited a few times since it changed from Reubens. Sometimes it smells quite fatty but it’s a comfortable setting for a coffee or snack. Unfortunately on the last occasion I went in at 3.30 and ordered a tea and was asked whether to have in or take out. I found a seat and at 3.40 my tea was brought in a paper cup, when I asked for a china cup, I was told it wasn’t possible because the shop was closing at 4. This wasn’t advised when I ordered as the girl asked whether I was sitting in, presumably to determine which type of cup to serve it in. I wonder whether it’s because it took 10 mins to serve? What added insult to injury was the fact there were several tables still with people drinking and lots of cups out, so it would have been good customer service and much appreciated if they could have agreed to my simple request.The manner of the refusal was also rude, not by the girl who served me but another girl with long dark hair who stepped in front of her and bluntly told me ‘no’. If she’d been more friendly or apologetic, I would have found it easier to accept, instead I left my tea and left the shop. Since then I’ve discussed my experience with friends and have heard that others have had a similar experience and have now found alternative venues. I have never been here before, my car was being serviced and my phone which was dead, needed charging. When I asked if they had a charging station, the young man very kindly plugged my phone into his plug behind the counter. As a cafe-shop owner I was really impressed, by the service, THE SMILES, the menu. They whole place is inviting, bright and cheerful. The menu is plentiful with every palette catered for and the cakes, even though I can see which supplier they are from, are well presented and look very, very tempting. Got there for just before 10 on a Saturday. Shop had maybe half dozen customers. Ordered 2 coffees and breakfasts. Sat there for next 35-40 minutes while shopped filled up. Those who arrived after us, placed orders and received food and drinks while nothing from our order arrived. Spoke to the guy who took our order and told him to cancel as had to leave. As we left he give us a cheery thumbs up. It’s a shame as the place looks nice and we were eager to try it. But such poor service with no word of explanation is why our order didn’t show up or any kind of apology, just a happy thumbs up as if you say ‘who cares’.
